Remember how I said you might go stir-crazy if you don’t enjoy some sort of snow activity in the winter? That goes for kids too–especially for kids. Fortunately, Greenlea’s usually pretty excited to get outside. Uncle Mike took her skiing last year (she loved it), and she always has fun sledding with her cousins…Auntie Shana even got her on ice skates when we were visiting them in Philly. But even when there’s not any real activity planned, her favorite thing to do in the winter is to just get outside and PLAY — all she really needs is snow. And fortunately for her, we have a TON of it. (See below for photographic proof of just how much.)
Let It Snow: Winter Gear For Staying Warm & Dry
Unlike a lot of other winter activities, the only thing you really need for playing in the snow (snowball fights, making snow angels, building forts and snowmen) is gear to keep everyone warm and dry. And with the exception of Zack’s Sorels–which are totally worth the price, btw–everything below is super budget-friendly. (Because no one needs to buy crazy expensive things to roll around in the snow, amiright?)
Men’s Winter Snow Gear On Zack
coat – CAMEL CROWN Men’s Mountain Waterproof Ski Jacket (L, tts) – available in a number of colors, this jacket is windproof and waterproof, and comes with detachable hood, warm fleece lining and a ton of pockets.
vest – Amazon Essentials Men’s Lightweight Water-Resistant Packable Puffer Vest, available in multiple colors, this is an easy layer to wear alone or throw on under a jacket for extra warmth. (Zack sized down to a medium so it could fit under jackets.)
boots – Sorel Men’s Cheyanne Metro Hi Waterproof Boots, these are Zack’s FAVORITE winter boots right now. He loves that they look like sneakers but are lined with some seriously soft microfleece for extra warmth. Waterproof and available in a ton of colors.
pants – Men’s Water-Resistant Fleece Lined Softshell Tactical Pants with Multi-Pockets, Zack loves these because they’re made for winter, but aren’t huge and thick like lots of snow pants are. They’re stretchy and lightweight. (tts and available in a ton of colors)
hat – adidas Men’s Midway Graphic Beanie, available in a bunch of colors, it runs a tad large, but Zack has a big head, so it’s perfect.
Kids’ Winter Snow Gear On Greenlea
snowsuit – Carter’s Heavyweight 2-Piece Snowsuit, a set of coordinating coats and snow pants in a ton of adorable colors and patterns. Greenlea stayed warm and dry despite the crazy snow and cold. Find the same snowsuit in more colors/prints, here.
mittens – SimpliKids Children’s Winter Thinsulate Insulated Waterproof Ski Mittens, I don’t know why it’s so hard to find waterproof mittens, but if she wears those knit ones they come home soaking wet. These keep her hands warm and dry–and in fact, she often complains that her hands are too hot (a very good problem to have, IMO). The animal characters on these are adorable, and there are a ton to choose from.
boots – UBFEN Winter Snow Boots Greenlea seems to be growing out of her boots on a weekly basis, and as much as I’d love to just keep buying her Sorels, that’s just not realistic for our budget. These boots have been keeping her warm and dry, and they’re easy for her to take off and put on herself. They’re unisex and come in a bunch of colors and styles.
One last picture, because you KNOW she’s up to something . . .
