Supergoop! reached out, asking if we’d test out their new Sunnyscreen sunscreen. Supergoop! happens to be the only brand of sunscreen my boys use without whining, so this wasn’t a tough sell. Typically, our sunscreen “uniform” starts with a nice base of Supergoop!’s Sunscreen Mousse, and then switches to the Antioxidant Sunscreen Mist for reapplication. This strategy works great…except for the face. For face touch-ups, we’ve been bouncing back and forth between various sunscreen sticks, trying to find a favorite. So when I realized that the new Sunnyscreen collection included an on-the-go stick made of 100% non-nano mineral sunscreen…we had to try it.
Supergoop! created the Sunnyscreen collection for babies, toddlers, and anyone with super sensitive skin — it’s safe enough for use as young as 6 months. How I do wish these products were available when my boys were babies! All three formulations (stick, lotion and spray) are pediatrician-tested, fragrance-free, silicone-free and hypoallergenic. But are they easy to apply? Do they go on glaringly white? These are the things I wanted to test — and they matter just as much now as they did when the boys were toddlers. So why not test on my two very vocal boys, with strong opinions on sunscreen?
The first thing you need to know is that this sunscreen stick smells really, really good. Like….we all LOVE the smell. It’s vanilla-y and yummy, and that seriously goes a long way to happy re-application. So thank you for that, Supergoop!.
Secondly, does it go on too white? This was of big concern to my oldest, who, at 11 years old, has suddenly started to care how he looks (SOB!).
In short, the answer is no. If you really rub over and layer it on, you’ll get a slight white sheen, but it does mellow a few minutes later and melt into the skin.
In the end (and after inspecting his face in my cell phone camera), Raines gave it a thumbs-up. The yummy smell was a big deal, as was the fact that we didn’t have to rub the heck out of his face to blend it in. This stick sunscreen may be made for babies and toddlers, but if you’re looking for a safe, mineral-based formula, it works even for picky tweens.
The Sunnyscreen lotion, however, is a totally different animal. Its application is more similar to those goes-on-white formulas I remember from my boys’ baby years. This one, however, can melt into the skin with very little rubbing (or, we found, time). Pax isn’t patient enough to wait for it all to get rubbed in, but 10 minutes later, you could barely see the tell-tale white cast. And frankly, I don’t mind being able to see where I’ve actually put the sunscreen.
The Sunnyscreen Verdict?
We LOVE the Sunnyscreen sunscreen stick — it now has a permanent place in my beach bag (and I’m ordering another one for my purse). Mousse and Spray are still our go-to’s, but the Sunnyscreen lotion is a perfect option for littles/kiddos/babies + those with sensitive skin.
