The weather in Michigan is always an adventure, especially way up north where I live. Although we have four solid seasons, they don’t as much fade into each other as they do wrestle for takeover.

Fall will deliver hot and muggy temps one day, snow swirling in the air the next, and then turn right back around and offer up a picturesque sunny + 65 degrees fit for an afternoon at the pumpkin patch.

This Open-Front Hooded Coat Has Me Seriously Dreaming Of Fall

My closet, in turn, mimics the confusing autumn weather. It’s not quite safe to fill my hangers with all my thick sweaters, but it doesn’t make sense to keep tank tops as the main event, either. So where do I always turn to help fill in the gaps? Fall coats. I’m talking about the lighter, drapey versions that can easily be thrown on and taken off. Jackets that resemble more of a sweater than they do a winter coat. I think my favorite part about this piece (and any sweater coat in general) is how functional it is. When I’m at the cider mill sipping some fresh (piping hot) apple cider, and the sun decides to peek out from the clouds, it’s rather delightful to be able to drape the coat slightly off my shoulders for some air, or I can take it off completely in a second. I don’t feel suffocated or restricted, but I do feel super-chic and like I’m still fulfilling all my Fall Pinterest Outfit Dreams.

Vince just so happens to make some of the most dreamy fall coats — albeit at a price point that I wouldn’t normally buy for myself. BUT my secret is that I never pay full price, or as my husband would say “I’ve got a guy.”

Saks OFF 5TH is “my guy” for these epic investment pieces, and they have the most incredible selection. If you do a quick Vince search right now, there are some heart-stopping pieces up to 70% off. It honestly always feels a bit too good to be true every time I shop on their site, and finding gems like this has me doing an actual little happy dance in my chair.

How I’m Wearing This Dreamy Coat For Unpredictable Temps

Fall coats, the ones that are not quite jackets but more versatile than a sweater, offer up an amazing no-fuss solution to getting dressed during the transitional seasons. They are usually just thick and long enough to be the focal point of your outfit, making them the perfect pairing to a classic white tee and your favorite jeans. I often see them with an open-front design (which is what gives them that cardigan-sweater vibe), but if you prefer having a closure option to stay even cozier, this Vince coat is super-similar to mine but with a front tie (and here it is extra long).

Fit Notes: I’m wearing a size medium in the Vince wool-blend, open-front coat, and it’s perfect. While I often opt for a size large in heavier winter coats or anything I want to wear bulky layers underneath, I prefer my true size (medium) for sweaters and sweater coats.

Coat | Tee | Jeans | Boots | Bag

When you’re wearing a classic tee and your favorite pair of jeans as the base of your outfit, it’s so fun (and easy!) to throw on a pair of boots and grab a pretty little bag. I rarely carry anything other than a simple crossbody bag (or a diaper bag, but that won’t be forever) and all bags I currently own are the same small, rectangle shape.

I was super drawn to this round Matt & Nat bag (under $75!) It can be worn as a crossbody like my other go-tos, but the shape made it just different enough to feel special. You can also detach the long strap and carry it by the short handles, which I love.

Fit Notes: My tee is a size medium and one of my absolute favorites. It’s incredibly soft and keeps getting better with each wear + wash. My boots also come in a camo print that would be very fitting for the fall season. They are a bit of a narrow fit; I’m a true size 9.5 but always order size 10 in boots (including these).

Speaking of the classic tee and jeans, I’ve been so, so curious about Hudson jeans. I recently tried scooping some up in a sale but missed out on my sizing. I was beyond excited to find this straight-leg pair, and as it turns out, Saks OFF 5TH seems to be the place to search for Hudson jeans. There are so many pairs to choose from and many are a whopping 58% off or more from their original price!! This pair is very comfortable, and I love the rolled hem.

Fit Notes: I go between a size 28 and 29 depending on the denim brand. I grabbed a 29 in these Hudson straight legs since it was a new-to-me brand, but they are just a little loose. After a quick search it looks like most Hudson styles are made with some elastane, so they are good and stretchy, which is something to consider. If you’re in between sizes like me, I would recommend going down!

This outfit formula — tee, jeans, statement fall coat and boots — is the perfect solution to all the fall activities coming our way. Since it includes your fave jeans and a comfy tee, it’s also totally road-trip-ready for the orchard or pumpkin patch that might be a few hours away!

    • Good question – while I don’t personally find it itchy, it is definitely a hardier + textured material. It leans more coat than it does soft sweater, if that makes sense!
