I keep ordering clothes to the house. It’s part of the job, obviously, but every once in a while I fall behind, and as the boxes stack up and begin to take over my bedroom (and my closet and our front hall) the ridiculousness of this job – babe, just kick all those boxes aside yes the bed is under here somewhere – really hits.
It feels especially ridiculous when you consider that I tend to wear the same thing day after day. In the winter I’m a black turtleneck and jeans kind of girl (on the daily) and in the summer, it’s a white tee or tank with cutoffs. So color me shocked when my eyes kept wandering over to Madewell’s red garment dyed shorts.
They’re short, but not underwear-short, they have a really high rise, yet they don’t squeeze my softer middle. And they’re the sort of red that isn’t overly shiny or obnoxious. The net result has been outfit-making, actually, and they feel like a fresh upgrade from my beloved (and typical) denim.
Styling Red Shorts For Day or Date Night
Red Shorts By Day
I got all fancy with my shoes (lest I bore you with endless photos of comfort sandals) but these shorts totally made this outfit (and would have, even with my go-to tan sandals).
Bag: Clare V. Pot de Miel
Raines: J. Crew Boys’ “surf the wave” T-shirt (30% off with code SHOPTOIT) Volcom Frickin Surf N’ Turf Static Hybrid Board Shorts, stance socks, Adidas Superstar Sneaker
Red Shorts By Night
I was so happy with the high-rise situation (high, but not squeezing) that I wandered into dangerous territory: the cropped top. I felt pretty good, but was ever-so-slightly afraid to eat, so there’s that.
The real takeaway here? These shorts can easily be dressed up with a sexy black top. The shorts do have an inherent casual vibe, however, so I balanced out the dressier top and casual short with a tan wedge sandal.
Tank: Lovers + Friends Jake Crop Top – I’m just wearing a black bra underneath….but am thinking this top would look cute over a white tee, on days when I’m not feeling as daring.
Bag: Clare V. Pot de Miel – still my fav. I’ll never quit this bag.
Shoes: Ugg Harlow Platform Wedge Sandal – I’ve now worn these a dozen times. I can, in fact, walk all over Philly in them – they’re totally comfortable. I cannot, however, walk FAST, but I can mosey around. They’re perfect date-night heels for strolling.
