In updating my virtual closet for the blog, Shana asked me to take a look at the most-worn items in my closet from this winter. I have to say, this was WAY more fun that I thought it was going to be. I mean…I love these items, and wear them SO often that I was more than happy to share this list of my go-tos. The worst part of this post coming out in February? It’s the end of the season and many things have limited sizing availability. My apologies. I listed multiple retailers (where I could) and similar items to give a few options. The BEST part of this post coming out in February??? So many winter staples are on sale!
1. Gray Jeans
These are BY FAR the most-worn item in my closet. I love them so much. I have collected several washes over the years (because when you find a good thing…), but gray is my favorite and most worn. I hack them off myself with scissors (nothing fancy…just a straight cut across and throw them in the wash to fray — DONE). They’re comfortable and look equally good with sneaks, booties, or snow boots.
My Gray Lucky Haydens (On sale!)
Ugh — sorry guys, they only have a few sizes right now in gray, but check back b/c they often restock!

2. Black Boxy Sweater
This top is a daily go-to this winter for sure. A black boxy sweater works for so many occasions. I throw it on with my Lucky Haydens and sneakers for casual; I put it on with my black jeans or high-rise flares with statement earrings to go out; and I wear it with my black skirt and patterned tights for work.

3. Taupe Booties
I bought these last winter, but I wore them this winter even more than last year (and I mean “more” as in almost every day). I really like them with my gray denim, but I’ve worn them with wide-leg medium wash jeans, black cropped flares, and my straight leg darker wash denim too. Danskos are super supportive and ridiculously comfortable…I am SO happy when I’m wearing them.

4. High-Rise Flares
High-rise flares are a go-to when I want to step up my casual game a bit — whether that be for date night or just meeting a friend. I pair these with my higher heeled black clogs and a dressier top or a basic tee tucked in, and fancy statement earrings. Outfit done. The Ella Moss and Pilcro denim from Anthro tend to fit me well for wide leg and flares.

5. A Fun Patterned Blouse
I’ve been wearing this recent purchase A TON (and it’s on sale right now!) They just came out with a slew of new prints here as well. I want to buy them ALL! I pair this top with my black cropped flares, my high-rise flares, my black work skirt, and most often — huge bold earrings. Sometimes I wear it over a black turtleneck, sometimes with a cardigan, or sometimes I break all seasonal rules and wear it bare-shouldered with a giant puffer over the top. It really has been working well in so many settings. My go-to retailers to find fabulous patterned blouses are Boden, Anthro and Madewell. They always have such fun options.

6. Black Work Skirt
Shana makes fun of me, but when I find something I like and it’s reasonably priced, I buy ALL the colors…just makes getting dressed simpler sometimes. This skirt was one of those items. The black is the one that I wear the most, but I got it in a couple of other colors as well, and was so happy I did. I actually wore them all on repeat as part of my easy-don’t-have-to-think-too-much work “uniform”.

7. Black Booties With A Wooden Heel
Oh, how I love these boots! This fall was the first time I had tried Lotta brand clogs, and I’m so happy with them. The ankle shaft comes up higher than my Danskos, so they look good with shorter cropped jeans/pants, but I also wear them a ton with tights and skirts and dresses. They were backordered for a very long time, but now they’ve caught up and are available in most sizes again. The heel is higher than Danskos and the sole isn’t as grippy, but they’re still pretty dreamy in my eyes.

8. Basic Navy Puffer
I’m sad to say that my exact Navy Uniqlo puffer sold out pretty fast, but it’s still available in the lighter weight version…which has an extremely similar look, but also has the added benefit of being packable. My friend has it and said it has kept her plenty warm all winter. The link to the lighter weight version is below.

9. Fabulous Statement Earrings
Statement earrings are DEFINITELY my most used style trick. I tend to wear what’s comfortable and easy, and then put on statement earrings and a red lip….And then magic…it’s an outfit. I try to buy my jewelry from artists or local boutiques, but I do love Free People and Anthropologie’s selections. They’re very hard to resist. The earrings below are super similar to the Free People earrings I’ve worn all winter to dress things up a bit, and I’ve gotten so many compliments when I wear them. They’re different from my usual style, which kind of adds another element of fun and “specialness”.

10. New Balance Classic Sneaks
I have a pretty hard time breaking away from wearing my New Balance 574s. I have them in gold and black, and wear them ALL the time. They’re plenty comfortable, but because my feet crave EXTRA support, I do put these Superfeet in. I actually just have one pair of Superfeet and switch them out between my different sneakers and some of my non-comfort brand shoes.
10.5. Warm Boots W/ A Pop of Color
Can I slip in one more? I wanted to include my super-warm winter boots that I am loving, but they sold out at Nordstrom, and I know it’s super frustrating when you see things you like and they’re completely sold out. But…I just found them on Amazon, so if you want to take a closer look at these bad boys — here they are. I had a difficult time deciding between these and the blue with the yellow laces…and the red are pretty great too.
