Hey mamas of tiny ones…this post is yours. New mamas and all of us with still-soft tummies want a fall update, too. There are some lovely finds this season that are still kind to feeding babes and feeling fab postpartum.

Rounding up some of these finds made me a little nostalgic about those early days with Sienna. She was an adorable little bundle, with the roundest cheeks you ever did see! She started saying ‘hi’ at about 8 months old….and hasn’t stopped since.

Confession: I still have and wear a pair of my favorite maternity jeans. Nostalgia is a powerful force.

Fall Staples: Plaid

Outfit Details:

TopMadewell Flannel Classic Ex-Boyfriend Shirt – Soft and a little generous in the fit, this would be a lovely but cozy choice. I adore dusty rose for fall and this top could easily take you into the holiday season, too.

JeansMadewell Slim Boyjean in Amedeo OR my favorite jeans ever, Citizens of Humanity Emerson Slim Boyfriend – it looks like Nordstrom has restocked a few sizes in these. I love that they fit a bit lower (read: softer) in front, but have a nice higher rise in back. I wear my usual size and they are the tiniest bit loose, as are most boyfriend jeans.

ShoesSteve Madden Carrson in Olive Suede – I’m dying over this color.

Fall Staples: Tie-Neck

Outfit Details:

Dress – Banana Republic Floral Tie-neck Dress – Loving this print and the retro vibe of the tie-neck. Kind of an updated Lois Lane look.

Jacket – H&M Distressed Denim Jacket – Liking the raw hem with this dressier outfit.

Boots – Halogen Cori Bootie in Chestnut Suede – Loving this warm rich shade with the denim and pale blue flower of this dress. Gorgeous with any blues and the height of the boot shaft is spot-on for this fall.

Fall Staples: Fall Palette

Outfit Details:

Top – JCrew Silk Pocket Blouse – Dying over this emerald color. Maybe it’s because I’m a green-eyed lady, but this would look stunning on many.

Pants – JCrew Martie Skinny Pant in Bi-Stretch – Nice and slim, but stretch. Yes.

Shoes – Clarks Kendra Sienna Pump – This color. Woah. And I’m a bit partial to the name. These are Clarks so comfy, too.

EarringsNordstrom Bar Drop Earrings – Loving the interesting shape of these.

Fall Staples: Ponchos

Outfit Details:

Poncho – Banana Republic Plaid Poncho – A cozy blanket for you and babe.

Jeans – Blank Denim Coated Skinny Jeans – Stretch and a reasonable price point. The mix of coated/faux leather with cozy plaid is one of my favorite combos. Rad jeans always helps me feel really bad ass on those tired mama days.

Shoes – Vince Camuto Elizas in Midnight – Really adoring these shoes. Digging the lacey shoe with the other warmer, heavier pieces. A great outfit is all about balance.

Meet Laura! She’s a reader turned contributor and we couldn’t be happier to have her as part of the team. Her fun, creative style is, as she says, “somewhere between Madewell and Joan Jett” (YES.) and she delivers some mean dressing room selfies so keep an eye out for those. Fun fact? She loves getting her haircut and we love to see what she has up her sleeve.

  1. Laura, this might be my favorite post you’ve ever done! All of your picks are fantastic, on trend, but really wearable. Now I have to narrow down all the pieces I want to order! Love!

  2. I adore that green j crew blouse but not sure where a new mommy would be wearing a dry clean only silk blouse 😉 thanks for all your other great ideas!

    • I’m a new mom and I nurse and work outside the home and the silk blouse is an amazing staple in my work wardrobe! Great post, Laura!

  3. Thanks for the post! I am a nursing mama and just happened to buy 2 tops listed above (the Madewell flannel in fig which is slightly darker irl but still lovely, and the faux-wrap blouse from Nordies in sphinx which is just lovely). I’m tempted to get a poncho now, too!

  4. I love the suggestions for drapey tops, but my experience is that they require boobs from which to drape. What if your bust is an A, but your belly is a B? What would you suggest (besides crunches)?

Just got the H and M dress in the mail and it’s cute but cut very generously. I ordered a small (6/8) and I am typically an 8 in H and M sizes. Not sure if their nursing sizes are larger for the postpartum body or just an odd dress.
