4 Ways To Wear Bermuda Jean Shorts with a Wrap Top

I’ve been wanting to try out a pair of bermuda jean shorts ever since Scotti wore them. They looked so comfy, easy and great for those casual, run-around Summer days. Well, I finally got some. While I like them with with a cool graphic tee or simple tank, I wondered if I could take them a slightly different direction – away from slouchy/tomboy-ish towards more polished and ballerina-esque.

The thing is…I’ve been having a real ballet moment recently, so I think that’s what sparked the idea. I used to dance all growing up, but then just stopped. I missed it, so I finally decided to sign-up for that dang adult class and get back to it. It wasn’t even really about the dancing – more so self-care and doing something that I really LOVE. I have noticed that when I forget about me, I slowly slump into a depression of sorts, so…this was essential. It turned out to be the best decision. Now I’m all balletballetballet and cannot wait to sign-up for the Summer session!

I guess I just took it out of the studio with me…and translated it into an outfit.

I found a pretty wrap top and lace-up espadrilles (reminded me of pointe shoes a bit)…and well, I’m just a Ballerina-Off-Duty over here. *snort* I can pretend, I can pretend. I may be 32 and 5’10, but don’t burst my little ballerina bubble, OKAY?

outfit details

top: J.Crew Lurex Wrap Sweater (soft blue, TTS) – a pretty little pullover for any day. Its lightweight enough to be worn through Spring. It has some sparkle to it, btw.

shorts: AE Slouchy Bermuda Short (consider sizing down one size, but I am wearing my usual 4) – Scotti turned me on to these and I have to say, I am now a fan! I love having the option of a longer short in my closet. The distressing makes them cooler than most bermuda shorts. I am in a size 4 (my usual), but I could have definitely gone down one size for a more fitted look. I think I’ll keep these, though, and just wear a belt if they get too loose.

shoes: Steve Madden Mesa Wraparound Espadrille (blue suede, TTS) – prettiest espadrilles I ever did see. I always want to spring for the massive platform espadrilles that are a huge thing right now, but um…I’m 5’10. I’m not trying to tower over everyone around me. Instead I found a pretty tie-up pair.

bag: Chelsea28 Reese Ring Crossbody (white) – no longer available in white and honestly, it’s a tiny, thin bag…which made it somewhat difficult to fit more than my phone or wallet in it. Now, F21 (I know, I know) has a really cute o-ring bag (and of course, it’s a nice cheap option for sporting a trend this Spring/Summer). I mean, I do cheap, so it doesn’t bother me! This Chelsea28 Cassie Crossbody would also be a great option (and comes in a  few different colors).

All Of The Outfits

Outfit 1.

top: LOFT Striped Wrap Top – more of a tailored wrap top, perfect for dressing up the shorts a bit. I find LOFT tops to be pretty TTS. I wear a small.

clutch: Rebecca Minkoff Leo Chevron Stripe Envelope Clutch – I have one of these Minkoff envelope clutches and it’s the clutch to have in your closet for those nights out.

shoes: Sasseta Sandal – this shoe reminds me of my favorite pair of low-heel ankle strap pumps…and these are the perfect neutral for all the spring/summer outfits.

Outfit 2.

top: J.Crew Lurex Wrap Sweater (soft blue, TTS) – a pretty little pullover for any day. Its lightweight enough to be worn through Spring. It has some sparkle to it, btw.

shorts: AE Slouchy Bermuda Short (consider sizing down one size, but I am wearing my usual 4) – Scotti turned me on to these and I have to say, I am now a fan! Outfit 3.

top: Side Tie Faux Wrap Top – what I like about this one is that it’s like a tee, but in wrap form. It looks comfortable and casual. Perfect.

bag: Rebecca Minkoff Julian Backpack (Putty white) – for all of you Julian lovers (every TMEer throws hands up)….this is the one to have for the warmer seasons. I like this whitefish color, because white white scares me a bit. ha! I’ve added this to my Someone Please Get me list now.

shoes: Birkenstock Salina (graceful hazel) – well, so I have been a self-proclaimed “Birks Hater” for years now. I cannot believe I have am actually linking to them here and saying they’re a good option for an outfit…BUT here we are. I have a pair on right now, actually (loving the Birk Mayari in Stone)…and I am most decidedly not hating them. Damn it. Don’t, S. Just don’t.

Outfit 4.

top: J.Crew Wrap & Tie Top – this one just looks so incredibly comfortable. I imagine I’d wear it all of the time, with either a pretty bralette or tank underneath.

bag: French Baskets Market Bag – I am so happy that I came across this Etsy shop for my Straw Bags post. They have some amazing straw bags…that come all the way from Morocco! All handmade, too. I am so impressed by their selection (and the kindness of the shop owner). I will be sharing more of these with outfits this Spring + Summer, so definitely look out for them.

shoes: Eva Lace-up Espadrille Sneaker (TTS) – you may recognize these from my Maxi + Sneaks post…awesome shoes for the warmer seasons. Not too clunky, too, which is nice for a platform-ish style.

I encourage all of you to do something that makes you happy…even if for just an hour, once a week. It’s hard to find the time, but incredibly worth it. DO IT.

Cheers,

Cams

  1. Thanks for the outfit ideas; always helps in deciding if the purchase is practical for those of us on a budget! Cute looks

  2. That clutch! WANT. Onto my ‘oh honey, mother’s day is a-comin’ list it goes! 🙂 And I feel you on the begrudging acceptance (love?) of those Birks. I got them recently too and… sigh. So comfy. Juuuust cute enough to replace the flip flops my feet can no longer handle. I tried them on, walked around my house for a while and literally said to my inner monologue of doubt “Ok ok FINE I cave.” hahaha

  3. What did you wear under this top? Normal bra? I love the look, so I don’t want to wear a cami or anything under it, but I’m a little afraid a boob will pop out if I bend over 💁🏻!
