Sir Yes Sir: Get Yourself A Military Jacket (or Vest)

I’m loving the military trend right now.  I normally reach for a faux leather jacket to throw on over everything, but the lighter weight military jackets (or vests) make for a nice change – especially with warmer weather coming.  They’ll look equally great over feminine flowy dresses as they will over jeans.  I can’t wait to bust out my distressed boyfriend jeans, dust off my sandals and finish with a lightweight army parka.  Buuut . . . we have snow on the ground.  Lots of it.  So for now, I’ll wear them with my Sorels.  Here are my top recommendations for rocking the military trend:

A Military Vest (With Drawstring Waist Because #flattering)

I love this vest.  It’s a great layering piece to take you into spring and even summer.  I’ll wear it now with jeans, boots and sweaters and in the warmer months with dresses and fun jewelry.  I’m picturing it over a flowy white midi dress with ankle boots and hoops or a black maxi dress with a long necklace and fun hair scarf.  Right now it would look great with black leggings, over-the-knee boots and a longer sweater.

Sorel Wedge Boots

This Cute Hooded Anorak

First off, I must warn you . . . this is meant to be wrinkled.  SO much so that they send it to you tied up in a ball.  It kind of makes it more practical, actually.  I mean, I can’t be the only one who grabs a jacket from a pile of clothes on the floor before heading out the door . . . can I?  (Please tell me I’m not).  I love the hood on this one too.  Perfect for days when there’s a slight drizzle but not enough to actually grab your umbrella . . .

A Tough-Girl, Lightweight Jacket

You could either call this a lightweight jacket or a heavyweight shirt.  It’s the perfect weight for layering.  Wear it under a thicker coat now or as the outermost layer when it gets warmer.  It easily fits into diaper bags and goes with everything.  Think of this green as a neutral.

And, oh yeah – my hair is purple.  I like to change it up every once in awhile and this was super easy because it’s just color-depositing conditioner (I used pastel purple)!  It slowly fades and washes out so if I didn’t like it . . . no biggie.  I’m kinda enjoying mixing it up, though!

Here are a few more options for some military jackets that caught my eye:

  1. Love the Sorels, those boots are magic! I’d love to see a roundup of wedge boots with a mid heel. Can’t seem to find anything as cute and functional at 2″.

  2. YESSSSSS I love colored hair! I do mine pink sometimes (but I’m naturally blonde so it’s easy). The only reason I haven’t lately is because I’m afraid of the looks I’ll get from my daughter’s kind of snooty pre-k moms and teachers. Hmmm….

    • I would do it BECAUSE of the reactions you’ll get from the other moms. Speaking from experience, (I’m recently pastel pink) it works as a great people filter. The kind of people you want to talk to, will talk to you, and the kind of people you want to avoid will avoid you. 😉

  3. I’ve been wearing this look for a few years now and I love it. Can you try out a cute bomber jacket or a linen blazer I’m struggling to find something new.
