Windbreakers and Heels (and Other Banana Republic Favorites)

I’ve been a long-time fan of Banana Republic.  They were my go-to place when I got my first real job, the place I first splurged on a wool Lady Day coat, and the brand is directly responsible for my obsession with comfortable, chic heels.

We were living in DC at the time, just married, and I remember building all date night outfits around a pair of  Banana Republic nude sandals with a round wool-block heel.  I could dance all night in those heels, run and catch cabs in those heels, and wear dresses, denim cut-offs or jeans with those heels.  They were perfect with everything, for anything.

So when Banana Republic reached out a few months ago, asking if I’d like to collaborate on an article about their upcoming summer collection…I was thrilled to find a similar pair of sandals on the linesheet.

I picked chambray.  For the 2018 me.  But to honor the late 90’s me, I also went with jeans and a windbreaker, which may seem like an odd choice with heels, but it’s a look I’ve been rocking since 1998.  Don’t knock it ’till you’ve tried it.

(It also doesn’t hurt that the windbreaker has a great neckline, cool drape in the back, and a scalloped hem.)

Outfit Details

windbreaker: Banana Republic Water Resistant Scalloped Hem Windbreaker (size xs for reference) – also comes in white

tee:  You can’t see it in the photos, but I’m wearing the Stretch Cotton Model Tee under the windbreaker.  I wanted to mention it because we’re often asked for a non-see-through white tee.  This is it.

jeans: In the photos, I’m wearing an old version of the Zero Gravity Skinny Jeans…. though they fit more like boyfriend jeans (and the distressing wasn’t perfect). You can see the updated pair here:  Zero Gravity Skinny Jeans – it’s much better.  I’ll throw a pic of the updated pair on Instagram (@shanachristine) – they’re nice and skinny, and the knee distressing is perfect. AND…..I just realized that Banana Republic is carrying my all-time favorite AGs (both the Farrah and the Legging Jean), in a ton of hard-to-find washes, so there’s that, too.

heels: Bare High Block Heel Denim Sandal – these cuties come in a low-heeled version, too.

A Few Banana Republic Favorites

I have summer travel on the brain, so just for fun, I rounded up some Banana Republic pieces that would make for a really good travel capsule wardrobe….

A huge thank-you to Banana Republic for sponsoring this post!  As always, all product choices, thoughts, opinions, and late-nineties memories are my own.  And readers, thank you for your continued support.  It doesn’t go unnoticed, and is so very much appreciated!
