Sandals y’all. Writing about sandals…on a day with a high in the lower 60’s…oh, Portland. I’m wearing close toed shoes today, but against my will. Once I bring out the sandals my toes do not want to go back to being confined in regular shoes…especially when they are freshly pedicured!

For me, it’s all about finding the right nude/natural colored sandals and wearing the heck out of them for the summer. A nude sandal goes with everything and keeps my shorter legs looking long. My current loves are this pair by Matisse (pictured above, yes, in the rain). I love that they are handmade and the leather is breaking in oh so nicely.

Keep reading for a round-up of our favorite nude sandals (and the criteria we use to pick the best ones….think: walkable).

Sandal Buying Criteriasandalbuying

This is pretty much my guideline for any shoe, but it’s especially important with sandals. I have a bit of a funky foot shape (bunions, le sigh) and sandals are hard to fit, so I’m picky. Who wants a shoe that accentuates a problem area, makes it unflattering, is uncomfortable and is boring? No one. Here is my curated list of shoes that fit this tricky combination.

Also, don’t forget to hydrate those dry feet all summer long (it’s a pet peeve of mine to see dry heels in sandals!!) I love this lotion for ze whole body. Yes, it’s for babies, and yes I stole it from Sienna, but it’s French and I adore it.

Any favorite sandals? As per usual, I’d love to hear about your finds.

Here’s to free feet!

Meet Laura! She's a reader turned contributor and we couldn't be happier to have her as part of the team. Her fun, creative style is, as she says, "somewhere between Madewell and Joan Jett" (YES.) and she delivers some mean dressing room selfies so keep an eye out for those. Fun fact? She loves getting her hair cut and we love to see what she has up her sleeve.

  1. This is great! In summer, I live in my tan Saltwater Sandals, which I got based on Shana’s rec years ago. My little guy had a matching pair — love mom/son matching. He’s outgrown them, but his baby brother will be wearing them next. 😉 They are literally the most incredibly comfy sandals ever. Waterproof. Great quality. And now that the full blown utilitarian shoe is in, they look cooler than ever, in my opinion!

  2. These are cute but most of them are only “nude” for light-complexioned folks. Would be great to see versions of nude that work for those of us with darker skin.

  3. FYI. Your link for the lotion is broken.
I agree with the comment that a variety of skin shades should be represented.

    • A couple brands to check out with some interesting options in varying shades of brown are El Naturalista and Art (if you like a more rustic Birks type aesthetic) or Air Step (if you like a more edgy look) or Fly London.

  4. Somehow when i was shopping for nude lace up sandals I ended up with fringed, tasseled, clowny colored buckle sandals! Alas, I’m still on the hunt for standards and may try the Saltwaters…

  5. Thanks for including a few pairs from “comfort” brands. My feet are no longer okay with just an old shoe, due to running, and Born, Clarks, White Mt., Vionic, etc. are sometimes hit and miss on the cute factor. That said, found these yesterday and they are comfortable AND super cute. The nude hue was not available though.
