Backcountry has quickly become one of our most-loved brands. Not only do they carry the best outdoor gear (I only know this because of everyone's awesome reviews here on the blog...for the record, I'm pretty indoorsy) but they also carry plenty of brands that adventure seekers (Shana) and non-adventure seekers (me) can both appreciate. Exhibit A: these cute shoes....

I learned the value of waterproof hiking pants on our trip to Iceland, oh gosh...five years ago now? I didn't arrive in Iceland with waterproof hiking pants — quick-dry leggings are almost as good, right? — but after a few days of consistently wet legs, I became the...
It’s springtime; the birds are singing louder, the sun feels warmer, and there is increasingly more light in the sky with each passing day. You’re about to go outside to soak up some much needed vitamins after the winter, and as you head to the door you slip on your favorite pair of boots.
BOOTS?
Surely, you meant sandals.
Nope! Believe...

The weather has been unseasonably warm here this year and thank GOD because we're all going a little stir-crazy. We had a TON of snow last year at this time, but this year we can actually sit around a campfire (that's not buried under all the snow) without freezing. Which...

Fresh air. I will never take it for granted again after this summer and this year's fire season. Friends, this trip to the coast to get outside with my girlie was just what I needed. You can see it on my face in all of these photos...what a gift it was....
I'm embarrassed to admit that we've been living in Philadelphia for ten years nows...and we had never gone hiking in Wissahickon until last year, The Ninth Year of Our Residency in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
One of the coolest things about Philadelphia? It's old, man. At least by U.S. standards. And the Wissahickon?
Well.
Once inhabited by the indigenous Lenape people —...
We ventured up to the Catskills recently, for a few nights of family togetherness. Despite the short drive from Philadelphia, we had never previously visited. We stayed at the North Branch Inn (more on that later -- we LOVED it), and basically spent a couple of days relaxing, eating, and doing a little hiking.

We're planning a little hiking trip next week. Mike and I have found, over the years, that we need proper family vacations -- away from the house -- in order for us to really unplug. Otherwise, our workaholic tendencies tend to get the best of us. And this year, we were supposed to be in Turkey. Like, right now....
