Well, Fall 2017. I feel like you’ve been giving the upper east coast a taste of what we Southerners usually experience every year – more shorts, HEAT, perspiration, frustration over the fact that sweaters cannot be worn and, most exasperating of all, having to make the difficult decision to get your favorite autumn coffee beverage warm (and sweat your bum off) or just settle and have it over ice…because it’s still too damn hot outside.
Is it bad that it kind of makes me feel some kind of strange satisfaction?…like…HA! Now you know how it feels, you smug Northerners with your oh-so-perfect Fall weather. HA!! You with your cozy layers and hats. Try making it all work now, bitchezzzz.
I’m joking, of course.
I can understand that this would be difficult for those of you that were not at all prepared for temps above 75 degrees this time of year. Really, it must be so hard on you. (sorry. I’m trying to cut the snark. I really am) The good news is, since this is normal to me, I can share more on how I do Fall styling…when it feels nothing like Fall. BTW: See my Styling Cut-off Shorts for Fall post, too, if you want even more ideas.
October is when I make it my objective to find something new, fresh and fun to wear. It can be a top (like my utility top), shoe, bag, lightweight layer or even something as simple as earrings – just something to break me away from the never ending tees-and-cutoffs-tees-and-cutoffs that become my over-worn momiform by late Summer…into September/early October.
It’s sad, but I have come to accept it.
That’s why I make it MY MISSION to do Fall, regardless of the temps. I just have to do it a bit differently. So. I look to the latest trends for some inspiration…and this time around camo and velvet stuck out to me, so then I shopped around until I came across a lightweight camo jacket and the most darling velvet shoes (and clutch to spice it up even more!). YEP. These would be the catapults to shoot me out of my Summer hole of despair.
outfit details
jacket c/o: Levi’s Camo Jacket (wearing size S) sold out now – Abercrombie has a lightweight Camo Shirt Jacket, which looks awesome and very similar to my own. Uhhh and PS. this longer Camo Jacket is amazing. Hello!
button-up c/o: Levi’s Tailored Classic Shirt (wearing size M) – I’ll be honest. I like this shirt, but don’t LOVE it. Honestly, I had really wanted a longer, more oversized button-down, to layer underneath the jacket. I think it would have balanced things out a bit more up top, but this Alternative Oxford Shirt wasn’t available at the time…so I worked with what I had! Not bad at all, just not exactly what I was going for.
jeans c/o: 7 for all Mankind Josefina Feminine BF Jeans (wearing 27, TTS) – oh, I love these. I was looking for a truly comfortable, casual pair of jeans for this Fall and coming Winter. I’ve been wearing a lot of the classic, NON-stretchy Levi’s and, while I love them, there’s nothing better than a really comfortable, throw-on-with-anything pair of jeans. These fit the bill. I’ll be wearing them with booties and a slouchy pullover sweater soon, I hope! HA. Maybe not soon, but before the end of the year.
shoes c/o: Sam Edelman Lulie Pump (Faded Rose Velvet, TTS, but could have gone one size up, b/c they are a bit narrow) – what a pretty little shoe. I like how unique it is, with the two skinny straps and the velvet. As soon as I saw they came in blush pink…it was a done deal. They have the ability to be dressed up and down, too, which is always a plus in my book. Oh, and they come in several different colors. I had my eye on the leopard pair, as well.
clutch c/o: Rebecca Minkoff Leo Clutch (Grey) – the perfect size for a clutch, in my opinion. Ya know those ones that have room for your I.D. and no more? Yeh. Not cool. This one has room for phone, cards, lip balm and a bit more. Love it!…& it comes in several different colors.
shades c/o: Trendy Mate Wire Cat Eye Sunglasses – these have a cool wire frame…and I love them. Affordable as crap, FYI. The styles in sunglasses are so fun right now!
I’ll be honest, the button-down was over kill. It was probably 80. uggggghhhh. I am just OVER THE WHOLE TEE/TANK THING. I totally could have done denim cut-offs with this whole look, though. hmmm. I actually really like that idea…
On that note, I hope that you lovely northerners get your Fall back real soon…with your layers, steaming beverages and all. I’ll be living through you on IG. 😉
Cheers,
Cams

I love the whole look! Can I copy it straight up but maternity style??
Uh YEH. Heck yes!
LOVE this outfit, but I’m thinking that since I own a camo sweater from J Crew and a hoodie… a camo jacket may be overkill, even though I love it. Can one have too much camo??
Omg, YES. Just the smallest wee bits of snark for the lovely ladies who actually live somwhere where they usually have Fall. HOTlanta girl here and it’s suppsed to be 86 here today. I mean, NO fall sweaters in sight. We are still in sandals and shorts. I love your outfit Cams and will try something similar when the temps dip below 75.
Thank you for capturing my fall angst perfectly. As a native Oregonian now living in Orange County, it kills me when it’s mid October and 80-90 degrees. I miss real fall weather so much!! Give me all the gray skies and rain. Also, lovely outfit.
I feel like now that I have lived somewhere with a true Fall/Winter, and I’m back in a city with super mild weather, I can honestly say Fall weather and fashion is overrated! Trust me! We finally relocated back to San Diego from Seattle and I could not be happier that I’m not currently purchasing boots and coats for all 3 of my children plus myself. I hope summer weather never ends ?
Very good point. It is a lot of work every year to get them everything they need. ehhhh. Already have to return a pair…and try to get the right size. I’d probably be fine with an eternal spring/summer, but not hot and then kind of cold, but never really cold enough for snow. Ya know?
Your post has many detail information. I read all of your article and I genuinely like it. Thank you for discussing this great post.
