Try-On Sesh: School Drop-Off Shoes For Cold Mornings

Well, friends. We’re solidly back into morning drop-offs again and it’s starting to cool down here in the Northwest, like, it’s seriously cold…below 40 degrees in the mornings! Brrr. It’s like we barely got a fall, but I’m hoping we haven’t skipped it all together. What this means re:fashion though, is that I am currently seeking out ALL THE COZY things for throwing on at 7:30am. And, the last, but certainly not least of those items, is the cozy shoe.

You may remember my post wanting to replace my UGGs last fall around this time (my how time flies!) Well, while I did love the ones I wound up choosing for a hot second, I realized after a season of them that they weren’t quite as versatile as I had hoped or they just didn’t totally gel with my wardrobe. (Aka mostly black and gray) I still don’t want to dust off those traditional UGGs again (except for camping trips where I wear them religiously), so the new search is on for comfy, cozy shoes I can wear out of the house, specifically for morning drop-off, to and from barre3, and, let’s be honest, sometimes all day long.

6 Cozy Shoe Options To Slip Into On Cold Mornings

Whether you work from home and go through slippers like candy like I do, or you just want a cozy pair for the weekends or the commute, I wound up finding an array of comfy options that should fit various needs. Could I have tried about 20 more pairs of shoes? Yes. But this gives us a good start. For those of you still in warm temps, you’ll be ahead of the game and be able to choose the pair you like before the sizes sell out! All of these shoes I tried are fleece-lined, but I wanted pairs that were more versatile or weather-ready than just simply cozy and slipper-like. This is always my struggle. Let’s check out the finds.

The Super-Comfy Convertible Slipper-Meets-Sneakers Pair

OK, spoiler alert…these are my fav for what I need. I don’t know why they’re the only pair I ordered in a shade other than black…I branched out I guess! But they’re a fabulous find. They are insanely soft and comfy with a fleece-type lining. They definitely feel the most slipper-like of the bunch, and I love that they have a collapsible heel for easy on-off at the door. I do like that the back heel comes up and fits on your foot to keep the shoe on, and I’ll wear them mostly that way. These Tevas are the perfect balance between slipper and sneaker (and sleeping bag, ha) and I might have to have them in every color. They’d be a perfect camping slipper or post-sports slip on. They come in black, a pretty burgundy, olive green and a coral, in addition to the sage green I have on here. Ooh — and they come in this cute outdoorsy print, too. They fit true to size and a little bit wide, like slippers would. *Update: they come in kids’ sizes, too!

The Hybrid Rain Boot/Snow Boot Update

Facebookers seem to think these lean slightly Napoleon Dynamite, and I take that as a compliment. Haha. I love these; if I needed a new winter rain boot they’d be mine. They’re less puffy though than some, and feel more like a rain boot on, but they are fleece-lined. They’re a solid choice for this part of the country that doesn’t get a ton of snow, but lots of rain. I’d call these a warm rain boot. And I love them.

The Wintery Pair We Know Shana Loves (They’re So Cute!)

We’ve all seen these on Shana, and they were just part of the Shopbop sale, too. I admired hers all winter last year, so I had to try them on. They are an adorable snow boot/sneaker-vibe hybrid, and they’re so so comfy. #thankssorel I’m not on the mountain much, so I’m not sure how much wear I’d get out of these, but they’re so comfy that I am super-tempted. Size up though. I am typically a solid 8 and the 8.5 wasn’t even too big on me at all. If you want to wear thick socks, consider going up a full size.

(I Had To Try) The Puffy Sneakers

Speaking of Shana, she posted these puppies in red recently, and since I was in the middle of rounding up comfy fall/winter shoes I had to give them a try. Omg. Funny. They are so fun, but I think a little much for my taste. They definitely read Rainbow-Brite’s-Slightly-More-Chic-Aunt or something, especially in the red. Even in the black they are just…SO PUFFY. Haha. Definitely the most coat-for-your-feet vibe of the bunch.

The Snow Boot/Hiking Boot Hybrid

These are pretty cute and a solid winter/fall boot. They’re waterproof and the fab quality we know and love from Sorel. They’re fleece-lined, too, but the least cushiony/springy pair of the bunch. But, don’t get me wrong, they’re still comfortable. If you’re looking for more hiking-style boot and less slipper-I-can-wear-in-public, these are for you. Should I stop hyphenating my thoughts now? Haha.

The Waterproof Short Boot (Let’s Call It The UGG Replacement)

Here’s yet another killer pair of boots from Sorel. I believe these are a new style. They’re waterproof and somewhat like the puffy boots above, but feel like a more traditional snow boot. The thing I love about them though is the height. If you don’t have to walk through feet of snow, try them. These are much more flattering on shorter legs because they show the ankle area. Don’t worry folks who hate bare ankles, they’d still be adorable with socks on, too. Just match your socks to your pants, IMO, for the most put-together feel. Size up a half-size in these, too, or possibly more if you’re on the upper end of your size…or if you plan to wear heavy socks.

  1. I also walk my kids to school everyday but I live in California so no snow. But I am always looking for a good throw on Mom outfit to drop off. I love big sweaters and leggings but honestly I am trying to up my fashion game right now. Lately I feel better when I am more stylish. I would love some full drop off outfits.

    • It’s already been on my to-do list! Stay tuned! I wear leggings quite a few days just bc I head to barre3 right after drop off, but I always try to find a way to jazz it up. I’ll put that in the post for sure!

  2. I was late to the classic UGG game but last winter bought two pairs of the mini in tan and black while recovering from surgery and on crutches. I wear them all the time football, soccer, and field hockey games. Bc nobody wears them anymore I get tons of compliments on the mini. But if I try a new one I’d try any of those sorels.
