I hate being cold. HATE IT. And no matter how excited I am about nighttime plans, the moment I actually start getting dressed, I almost always throw my original idea out the window and opt for something warmer.

Cute & Cozy: Warm Winter Outfit Ideas

Over the last month or so, I’ve found myself gravitating to the exact same outfit (over and over again) so I figured it was time to share. I’ve worn a version of this outfit to school plays, dinners out, dance parties at friends’ houses, salsa nights, and will — in all likelihood — wear it on NYE, too.

4 Steps To A Warm-But-Cute Winter Outfit

1. Layer a Silk Cami Over a Tee (& Add Fancy Accessories)

I always start with a silk cami layered over a t-shirt. The tee adds a surprising amount of warmth, and also means that I can wear a normal bra.

Huge statement earrings are the best thing to happen to date night looks, in my opinion. Bracelets get caught in coats, necklaces get covered by sweaters (or you really have to wrestle with neckline choices) but earrings? Earrings are foolproof. No matter what else you put on, earrings make you fancy.

2. Try Some High-Rise Flares

This is obviously more of a personal preference, but I LOVE my high-rise flares. The slight 70s vibe feels fresh and modern, and they’re so insanely flattering.

3. Two Words: Cashmere Turtleneck

Thanks to the earrings, cute bag, and rockin’ flares…even my cashmere turtleneck looks party-ready. When I get to my destination, I can always lose the turtleneck, but if I’m cold, I keep it on (and the outfit still works).

4. Finally, Add A Faux Fur

I mean…OK. If it’s really and truly absolutely freezing and we are WALKING somewhere…I’ll either wear a puffer coat or swap out this little faux fur for a really warm and toasty one (for example — I also have this one from Banana Republic and it’s FABULOUSLY warm).

I wouldn’t change the tee (it’s literally the best I’ve found for layering), but here are a few cute options for silky camis, earrings, and bags:

Shop Fancy Camis To Layer

Not only do these form the cornerstone of my date night looks…but I layer them under sweaters for warmth during the day, too. And if you don’t care about shine, 100% silk camis can be machine washed. They come out looking more matte, but that’s what I do with the Cami NYC racerback silk camis.

  1. Shana I’d follow you to the end of the fashion earth. I just think every choice you make is stunning … *except* that T under cami thing. Why? How?
