All last summer I eyed a skirt like this one and never followed through…why?? I was stoked when I found out Gap brought back the denim midi this year so I didn’t have to beat myself up for letting it pass me by. I’m always on the hunt for pieces to wear in the summer here because you guys…without humidity the shade is actually cool. I know. Who knew. Not this Southern girl.
Anyway, I don’t mind shorts when it gets really hot here in August, but for much of the summer (especially while I’m still sporting my pale Portland legs) I want something that feels fun but covers more. You also know by now about my forever crush on anything denim, so though I don’t wear a ton of skirts, when I do…they’re usually denim.
Look 1: Graphic Tee & Neutral Ankle Boots
Of course it was blustery and pouring this day. Apparently I have one facial expression for shooting in those kind of conditions. But at least we had this amazingly gorgeous turquoise wall to brighten our moods, thanks to my favorite consignment shop, Consign Couture in St. Johns. You may have seen me there a lot recently if you follow me on IG stories. Tamara is a great supporter of local women and their businesses! She has a new location now, too, in Lake Oswego. Be sure to check her out, Portland!
I like how this graphic tee and low ankle booties combo came together with this skirt. You know I’m a graphic tee fan. They’re just fun and interesting for any outfit. These booties are a good neutral with my skin tone and don’t cut off my leg length visually. I’d definitely stick with a low boot here that shows your ankle for a most flattering look. The slit on this skirt is helpful in that, too, for those of us 5’4″ and under especially. Taller mamas you can rock some of the other styles I found below, too.

Tee – Who doesn’t love Dolly? Wearing a Small. OOH also this one!
Skirt – This skirt is from the Gap and I love. It’s high waisted and just the right amount of boho with the patched fading. Wearing my typical size 27 but in Petite which seems to be sold out 🙁
Jacket – Fav leather jacket ever. The collar. Wearing US 6. It’s seriously my most-worn jacket now… besides my raincoat. Wamp wamp.
Booties – You’ve seen them before. They’re just the right color, just the right fun print and just the right heel height. I LOVE these for adding some interest and fun to any outfit and they show off my ankles and blend in with my skin color so they don’t cut off my height visually.

Look 2: Summer Default Outfit – Tank, Espadrilles & Layered Necklaces
This is just an easy but cute combo for all summer. Racerback tanks are always my favorite…shoulders look so pretty in them. And I will always love stacked necklaces for jazzing up a solid tank or tee. These sandals with ankle straps are delicate enough that they show off your ankles without cutting off the legs.
Why am I watering the plant in these pics? Oh because I live in the land of darkness and rain and this was the best light in the house. I do love my plants though. They all like the living room best so it feels somewhat jungle-esque in there and I’m ok with it.

Tank – I love Alternative Apparel and this tank is no exception. SO soft and fits and flatters. LOVE. Wearing size Small.
Skirt – This skirt is from the Gap and I love. It’s high waisted and just the right amount of boho with the patched fading. Wearing my typical size 27 but in Petite which seems to be sold out 🙁
Espadrilles – Mine are from last spring… These are similar. And these.
Necklaces – Mine are older but I’m loving these and these from Etsy for a super similar look.

Looking good as always, mama. And I realize this is off topic but your tattoos look awesome in that racerback tank! keep up the good work and enjoy that sunshine!!
Haha thanks lady!!
Like the patchy vibes and slit on the skirt, creates more interest! Nice post!
Agree. Thank you so much!
I have to admit, the skirt is going to take some getting used to for me. I’m very ambivalent about it. However, I love that tank and the layered necklaces! And happiest of happy days…I finally ordered the booties that I have been coveting since you first posted about them! And they were on sale! AND I had $15 worth of bonus points to use! Best. Day. Ever.
Ooh, yay!!!
You can seriously rock any look–but I just can’t get into a long denim skirt–even with the sexy slit just reminds me of Big Love and the sister wives’ attire. (no offense to any sister wives)
But you look stunning as usual.
Haha. That’s hilarious. Thanks lady.
And Camper looks good too. Thanks for including the dog – can I stop telling you that every time he’s in a pic? Probs no…
🙂 She says thank you! #dogmoms
