I think we all know by now that if you had to choose a season to describe my style, it probably wouldn’t be Spring. It’s not that I don’t love the season itself, but florals, pastels and bright colors are not typically my jam. I’m more of whatever season calls for…black. And gray. Haha. But alas, I’ve recently been (extra) geeking out on color (just ask my fellow TME teammates) and ran across a palette that I would wear that’s still spring-ish. Queue the earth tones and weird muted shades…now you have a rainbow I can get down with.
Spring Capsule Wardrobe in Earth Tones
Part of the inspiration for this post came from a recent visit to a new local shop here in Portland called Monochromatic. This graphic designer’s heart skipped a beat when I went in. (I may have gushed to one of the owners about how gorgeous their shop was). The store itself has a very neutral interior, but all the clothing pieces fall into a carefully curated spectrum. I want to live there. And while the style of some of the clothing isn’t exactly what I wear, I’ll be going back regularly simply to bask in the glow of the perfectly muted rainbow. And most likely pick up some tees.
I wanted to take that beautiful color combo idea and apply it to pieces I do find myself drawn to. These colors are lighter and lovely for spring, but wearable for those of us who don’t really do many brights or traditional pastels, if you will. The brands widely available that seem to share my love of these colors are Madewell, Everlane and J.Crew. The first two, especially, offer multiple pieces in these pretty tones. If you can’t tell, I had fun putting together this capsule.

Earth Tone Look One: Stripes & Suede
This look is fun and pretty, and slightly feminine but edgy. I’m seriously considering this moto jacket in that gorgeous shade. I have the short sleeve version of this top — I can’t wait to wear it. I wanted to pull in something with a bit of pattern, and this beautiful white and rust stripe did the trick. It’s so fab with the lighter denim.

Earth Tone Look Two: Muted Pastels
Earthy pastels I can get on board with, and this combo has me ready for spring. I love this raincoat and have had it for a year now. You’ve seen my love of mustard yellow pants already, and these boots are just fab. And yes, you can easily wear suede in spring. Just give it a good spray with suede waterproofing regularly.

Earth Tone Look Three: Rust, White & Blue
I love this combo, maybe best. The sweater and pants aren’t super-Springy on their own, but mix in the light denim jacket, the almond bag and the white sneakers, and it makes it feel lighter. Pants this color might seem too bold, but in fact they become a gorgeous neutral that pairs beautifully with pale blue, peach and dusty rose, as well as olive green. And, of course, white, ivory or gray always works.

I love this so much. I have those rust colored Madewell pants and I thought they were so fall. I’m definitely trying them with the light blue for spring. And I love all of the other looks too.
