Hi ladies! So I got a little excited about back to school shopping this year…for myself. Shopping for my kindergarten girl can be tricky since we have very different um, aesthetics? Her love of rainbow and animal print rivals mine for black and stripes. Living with her creative fashion choices must be rubbing off on me though, especially in the shoe department. Luckily, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale provides options for both, and just in time for back-to-school shopping! While I’m not going to be pairing tutus and rain boots anytime soon these leopard high tops and silver booties are going to be on replay all fall. Want to see how I’m mixing interesting shoes with classic cooler weather pieces?

Jeans + tee upgrade that goes from the playground to parent-teacher meetings or dinner, just add a blazer.

Wearing

blazer: Loft notched blazer – I’ve raved about this blazer before, the fit is so good and quality is phenomenal. If it was in Lucky Mag, they’d call it “skinnifying”.

tee: Weekend Lover (old Thread Tank), similar (sold out, other weekendy tees I like.

jeans: J.Crew Toothpick – I always appreciate when brands offer petite versions of fan faves, these aren’t too tight and hit at a perfect spot on the ankle.

sneakers: Loeffler Randall Crosby Sneaker – these high tops, tho – my 5 year old’s jaw literally dropped. Super comfy if your feet are on the narrower side (and sizes 8 & 8.5 are on sale)!

alo-leggings

Conservatively, 93% of my wardrobe is athleisure. Since I work from home, I can wear it everyday to the “office” (aka desk in the corner of our bedroom). Plus if I ever wanted to work out, I’d be ready. Not that it’s happened much, but it could. At any time.

Wearing

sweatshirt: (similar) Zella Layer Me Pullover – Love the cross-over detail at the bottom that spices up a plain shirt.

tank: long jersey camisole – These H&M super long tanks are my go-to layering pieces if a shirt doesn’t quite cover the assets in leggings. Also, $3.99!

leggings: Alo High Rise Capris – I picked these up during the Nordstrom sale. They’re a heavier-weight fabric with a wide waistband so they definitely suck you in and keep you there – better for cooler transitional weather or late afternoon beaches. Loving the longer length for actual fall weather because cold ankles are the worst.

faux-suede-dress

I’d usually just grab a long sweatshirt to throw over leggings for playdates or my days off with the kiddos but this faux suede shift dress is just as easy. Later this fall I’ll pair it with these crazy comfy and flattering leggings and a cozy scarf.

Wearing

long sleeve tee: old, (similar) J.Crew Perfect Fit

dress: old BCBG (similar) Faux Suede Shift Dress – Cam did a fun article on faux suede dresses last fall; they’re cute & classic enough to remain a fall staple for me.

boots: Seychelles Lucky Penny Bootie – the pewter color is much more subtle in person and can go with anything, similar to the taupe bootie article Shana posted recently.

This outfit. All fall. Swap in the leopard sneakers and it’s a whole different look! Kind of? Don’t care, it’s such a no-brainer it’ll easily become my go-to for brunch, mom meetups, and anytime leggings are not appropriate.

Wearing

sweater: Striped cashmere – Snapped this swingy cashmere up during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, too. It’s super soft and a little sheer but still really warm.

jeans: J Brand Mid Rise Skinny – Stretchy and thick for cooler weather. The rise is perfect for smoothing things out, no muffin top! (Note – the inseam is 29 inches so most will find them ankle length, petites will have roll). The black is gorgeously dark and shows lint/pet hair/etc but cleans up easily.

boots: Seychelles Lucky Penny Bootie – the pewter color is much more subtle in person and can go with anything, similar to the taupe bootie article Shana posted recently.

sunnies: Aviator Sunglasses – Finally found aviators that work thanks to the smaller frame size.

earrings: (similar) Rebecca Minkoff – Comfortable but edgy to add interest.
