Fast-Fashion for Fall: At Home Try-Ons

I’ve been intrigued by Topshop’s pieces lately and I’ve always been after that London-chic look. Gwen said they had easy shipping and returns and she’s been trying out a few of their things lately, too. Worth further inspection! So, inspired by our trip (more on that later!) I ordered some pieces for a try-on sesh…and found some killer stuff. Check it out.

Jackets

Twill Ponte Overcoat – I adore this. It’s so amazing. It’s more of a jacket weight and would make any outfit cooler. I’m wearing a US 6 and it is definitely oversized, but you do want it a bit that way. I think this is a piece I’m keeping. I have nothing like this and I love that it’s so perfect for layering over just about anything. Love the city chic vibe.

I took the size calculator on Topshop’s site and it suggested I try a 6 in most of their clothing. I’d agree with that, but may have been up to try a 4 in this particular piece. I’m typically a 4-6 in most US clothing.

Petite Moto Black Skinny Jeans – I loved these except for the rise wasn’t quite high enough. The fit was good otherwise and flattering. They are super cropped but good for wearing with sock/mid-calf boots.

Black Borg Denim Jacket – Another great jacket find and a slightly oversized fit. If I weren’t kind of swimming in denim jackets already I’d keep this because it’s that great updated fit. Wearing US 6.

KROWN Studded Boots – These were one of my favorite things I tried. So cool and a style I do not already have, but have been wanting for years. They are very comfy and the fit is good. I’m typically an 8 and went with the 8.5 (because they’re European sizing) and they are perfect with a tiny bit of room for socks. This is the second pair of Topshop boots I own and am impressed with the quality of both.

Super Soft Crewneck Jumper – Super soft is right and very cute. It’s more flattering than this picture suggests, but I think I would’ve preferred another color on me. It comes in a pretty red and a lovely yellow, as well as a great heathered gray. Wearing a 6.

MOTO Blue Ripped Lucas Jeans – These fit well and I liked the distressing, but didn’t love the wash. Maybe I’m just having a hard time with the new, superblue washes. They seem to be everywhere. I’d definitely try more Topshop jeans though because they seem well made and are a nice price-point. Wearing 28×30.

Lace Crinkle High Neck Top – This is so gorgeous and surprisingly soft and comfy. I love it with the tan boots and black jeans for a bit of a romantic vibe. It’d be pretty for layering under a shift dress or a sweater, too. So versatile and lovely. Wearing a 6.

Petite Spot Print Top – This is another of my favorite pieces. Love the boxy cut and the crop. I think I could’ve gone with a size 6 regular instead of this 8 petite, but looking again it actually looks cute in this fit. Again, something I don’t have in my closet and something I’d get a lot of wear out of. Love.

Jeans | Shoes

Cactus Print Casual Shirt – This is so rad and artsy. Love the vibe and love it buttoned all the way up. I sized up to an 8 in this because I typically have a little trouble buttoning my usual size in this style top. Seriously love this for a fun print.

Jeans | Shoes

Cactus Embellished Striped Tee – Love this little tee with the red crewneck and cactus embellishment. I think I’d pair it with gray jeans, blue jeans or trousers to keep it from looking SO black and white though. Wearing a US 4.

Jeans | Shoes

Chiffon Sleeve Ruffle-neck Jumper – Sizes selling out quickly, dang. But i love this. It is a bit cropped and fitted at the waist but would be great with high waisted jeans. Super pretty for a good dressy fall/winter top.

Jeans | Shoes

Sweetheart Chiffon Hybrid Jumper – Another cute dressy top for fall/winter. Most sizes are still left in this. Again a little fitted at the waist, but flattering and perfect with high waisted bottoms. Wearing a US 6.

fast fashion for fallStripe Rollback T-shirt – Somehow I accidentally ordered a size TALL 8. Oops. The top is cute, but seems more summery to me and I’m a little stumped on how to wear it in the fall. Maybe layering it under a camel cardigan or blazer would be cute.

Dresses

Knot Front Mini Dress – Super cute online, but just not flattering on me. Sizes are selling quickly. If you’re taller or have a longer torso (I’m 5’4″ with a short torso) then it’d be great on you. I can totally see this on Jess! Love it over jeans.

Lace Slip Hybrid Jumper Dress – Love the style of this and I’m a huge fan of navy with black. So cute. The fit is good. The only thing I didn’t like was that the jumper is quite cropped underneath and I’m afraid it would get cold and wouldn’t be a piece I could wear separately. Love it over jeans though and I’d put a black kitten heel boot with it instead of the camel boots I think.

I’m really glad I tried so many pieces from Topshop for this experiment. What I love most is that a lot of these pieces aren’t something I already have in my closet and honestly I’ve been feeling like I needed a bit of an update. I’ve always admired the London-chic look, but for some reason wasn’t quite sure how to mix it into my wardrobe. I think this little test showed me that a few key pieces (the overcoat and gray shoes, especially) could easily work into the rest of my closet but give it an updated vibe.

Have you tried any Topshop pieces lately that you love? Anyone else a little obsessed with London? Or have any job offers for the hubs over there 😉 Stay tuned for a full update of our trip and a packing post that I’m excited to share!

Until then…

  1. I actually like you in that knot front dress! It was my second favorite look on you. My fave is the ivory lace w/black jeans. Such a up-to-date, dressier look. I love it!

  2. Not Topshop but I am so excited about the H&M and Erdem collab coming out in a month or so. Please please please someone attack this collection! (For similar body type purposes I would say Cam, but anyone!)
