Three major fall fashion trends in one look?  Maybe this combo of embroidered statement boots, flare jeans and a modern cape should more aptly be titled, “Not As Crazy As it Sounds”? To be honest, it took some convincing from Shana and the rest of the ladies as it’s a few steps outside my comfort zone but once the proportions were right, it worked.

This cape comes in regular sizes, not petite, so I was concerned it would be a bit overwhelming with all that fabric, but the drape wins, plus the oversized jacket look is in for fall. It’s surprisingly easy to wear and I like that the zipper makes it flexible. The dramatic leg on the flares really works with the draped sides of the cape/poncho – everything balances out. Shana also suggested wearing a mini dress under it and over the flares if you’re braver than me. (Would look amazing on taller ladies!)

The icing on the outfit? The tall (yet walkable thanks to a block heel!) embroidered statement booties. I tried to get a good pic in the sun so you could appreciate the sparkle factor. They didn’t feel like “too much” for daytime but they’d really shine at night, no pun intended.

cape: Treasure & Bond Canvas Cape – One size but will work well for lots of body types, including maternity & postpartum since it’s so forgiving. A great fall layer over a sweater (or tee, since summer didn’t get the memo that it’s over?). Also in blue denim, gets great reviews.

flare jeans: Paige ‘Bell Canyon’ High Rise Flares – I’m wearing the petite high rise flares (non-ripped version, better for cool weather!) which is a 31-inch inseam (it’s still super-long on me by a few inches). The regular version is 35.5 inch inseam so perfect for leggy ladies! I love the fit of Paige jeans but wanted a higher rise than the Verdugo skinnies. These are the perfect rise to hold everything in but not dig in when you sit down. I felt like my legs were a lot longer than they actually are!

statement boots: Steve Madden Goldie Women’s Boot – Surprisingly comfortable for a non-heels wearer and so incredibly pretty. Imagine with velvet jeans & a cashmere sweater for the holidays! True to size.
