Denim jackets have always been my go-to for layering over dresses. But recently…I’ve been wearing them with jeans. I actually accidentally discovered that I like this combo when I was visiting Shana last month. We had one of those cold-but-not-too-cold spring days…you know, the kind that require a lighter jacket…but all I’d brought was a puffer. (It’s still winter in Michigan. Boo.) I used to be afraid of denim-on-denim (and I obviously can’t pass up this perfect opportunity to revisit this amazing photo), but right now it feels like a fresh combination for spring. I mixed up the washes, added a bright top to break it up, and finished with red lips . . . because everything is better with red lips.

Denim Jacket + Distressed Jeans + Bright Top

Denim-on-denim. Can't go wrong for a laid-back look, especially when the temps are changing. A jean jacket, a pop of color...here's how we're styling it.Denim-on-denim. Outfit Details

jeans: American Eagle Curvy Jeans – YAS!! These jeans fit over a curvier booty but won’t gap at the waist. They run slightly bigger due to the high rise — I’m normally a 28, but 27 (short) fit in these. They also come in FIVE lengths for the perfect fit.

jacket: Lightweight Denim Jacket (xs, for reference) –  I’ve been wearing this jacket on repeat since I got it. It has just the right amount of distressing and is that perfectly oversized fit. On sale!

t-shirt: Graphic T (similar) – I think I need to get this one and wear it around Shana.

sneakers: Sneakers (similar) – These come in four colors and have a functional zipper, which makes them easy to slip on and off.

top: Thermal Sweater (40% off right now!) – I love this lightweight sweater . . . it’s perfect for spring. I’ll wear it as a cover up with denim shorts this summer too.

sunnies: Warby Parker Harris Sunglasses – Prescription sunnies are SUCH a good investment. AND Warby Parker donates a pair to someone in need with every pair purchased!

lips: NARS Velvet Lip Glide in Mineshaft – A hybrid lip formula that’s like a gloss and a lipstick. It’s easy to apply, comfortable to wear and comes in lots of bright fun colors.

  1. The pic with Shana baby wearing is inspiring me to make a very specific request: can y’all do something on Ergo (or other baby carrier) style? The straps hit in weird places, everything ends up wrinkly, everyone ends up sweaty. I love carrying my baby but I always default to the same gross sweatshirt because of the aforementioned problems. If I go somewhere and take him/it off, I look like a literal hot mess. Scotti — or others of you who remember this phase — what to do?!?

  2. I’m copying this look. So fresh! I love the light denim with red lip with yellow sweater…perfect! You are a breath of fresh spring air.
