A couple of weeks ago I did a pretty deep dive into J.Crew’s sale section — trying real hard to keep in mind the ol’ philosophy of only buying pieces that will see me wayyyy past this period of stir-crazy impulse buys — and, honestly, my expectations were pretty…well, not low. But after I checked out, I kinda forgot about the whole order for a couple of weeks. So when I came home from a neighborhood walk this weekend to find a porch full of goodies, I almost dreaded bringing them in and trying everything on. (Ugh, bringing anything inside the house is just a huge pain in the ass these days, which is reason enough to limit unnecessary purchases, but I digress…)
But then I holed up in the guest room, blared some good ol’ my girlfriend left me and my dog died country music and dove in. And guys, I was SO pleasantly surprised. Enough so that I double-checked the inventory on all of these pieces and decided they were worth a post. And, well, here we are.
Bikinis, Blouses, Booties & Jeans: 11 J.Crew Outfit Items Worth The Price
Ten pieces (but really 11 because I can never stick to 10) that are more than worth their sale price. Happy shopping!
QUICK LITTLE DISCLAIMER: J.Crew’s sales have been fluctuating almost daily, so I’m not posting the current listed prices for these items, but they are all firmly rooted in the Sale Section (versus a temporary promo), probably with a code for additional savings. I’ve tried to note where inventory is running low, too, but many of the pieces below are offered in other colors or patterns for a similar discount, so look around a bit.

1 & 2) Possibly THE Most Classic Sweater +
An Actually Wearable Wide-Leg Jean
I have the striped version of this sweater from last year, and the roll-neck detail instantly makes it feel so classic and East Coast preppy, so I snapped up this creamy ivory as soon as I saw it. It’s the perfect sweater to pair with shorts when the weather’s kinda in-betweeny. Made from 100% cotton — and available in lots of colors, too (some more discounted than others). Just a timeless, well-made piece. Fit is TTS; wearing an XS.
And these jeans! I was pleasantly surprised by these guys. I love the idea of a wide leg jean, and I even have some pretty dramatic flares that I genuinely love, but they definitely have a vibe going on, whereas the slimmer wide leg on these are just easy — not trying too hard. Love a raw hem, too. And even though I’d almost given up entirely on stretch jeans, I have to admit that these are really comfy for high-waisted denim. Fit is TTS; wearing a 25.
3 & 4) This Conservative Yet Sexy Keyhole Blouse +
Straight (but, really, more skinny?) Jeans
I had a blouse almost exactly like this college, and it was one of my most treasured pieces. I wore it on dates with black skinnies and heels; I wore it to job interviews tucked into skinny trousers under a blazer. And I’d wear this one in exactly the same manner. (Oh, and with jeans, too, duh.) It’s hard to see in these pictures, but there’s a silky panel that gives it almost a tuxedo bib feel, and the blousy sleeves and button details at the cuff are so sweet. (Note that, at first, I thought the button cuffs were going to be too slim, but it turns out they hit at just the right spot.) Fit is TTS; wearing an XS.
And the jeans are one of J.Crew’s best-selling styles, the Hightower Straight. To be honest, I think calling these “straight” is a bit of a stretch. While they are not tapered tightly to the ankle like a true skinny, they’re definitely slimmer than what I typically envision when I think of straight jeans. And since they’ve got some stretch in them, it seems like they’re designed to be quite fitted, which also gives them more of a skinny feel. Anyway. Again, super comfy as far as high rise jeans go, and with a 10″ rise, they’re high but not sky high. Interestingly, I’m between a 24 and a 25, and while both fit, I sized down to the 24 in these since even after a few minutes of wear they stretched to a comfy (albeit still quite hugging) fit. Great jean if you’re essentially looking for something skinnier that you don’t have to wrestle your feet in and out of.
5) The Fabled Superplush Fleece!
I’ve been eyeing this cozy guy since it first debuted this winter, and even though we’re kinda getting out of fleece weather, it’s been dipping to some pretty low sale prices lately, so I figured it was worth a go. (Also, who am I kidding: it’s always fleece weather on the coast.) The verdict: it’s incredibly soft and cozy, and the fit is more modern than the same type of fleece I had 15 years ago with an elasticized hem. It does run large (perhaps intentionally so), so I think I’ll be sizing down from the XS worn here to an XXS. Check the other two colorways, too — both feel nostalgic while still being neutral.
6) This Easy, Beachy Sweatshirt “Tee”
Don’t you just love a sleeper hit? I snagged this even though it was on final sale because it’s the perfect weight for summers around here since the fabrication is a light sweatshirt material. This will get lots of weekend wear with leggings, but I’ll pair it with platform wedges and jeans, too. Surprisingly, I actually like the longer, oversized sleeves, which gives it a bit more of a high-fashion edge. (But, like, high-fashion T shirt. Words are hard, guys.) TTS; wearing an XS.
7) A Seriously Comfortable, Dramatic Top
Ok, the blouses at J.Crew right now are just totally up my alley. They’re playful, comfortable and completely unstuffy, and even though I was nervous this was going to come off as clowny when I saw it online, I figured it was worth a try. So glad I did. First off: 100% cotton! Second: the drama of the ruffled sleeve is just enough, and the details feel pretty dang high-end. I’m also not a huge fan of straight up RED but somehow J.Crew manages to do great things with this color. It’s warm without being too orangey, so it feels as appropriate for summer as it would during the holidays. (If you’re not feeling the red, it’s available in four other more neutral colors, including a pretty blush pink.) Length works for tucking, or not, but I love the emphasis on the shoulder drama when it’s tucked. Fit on this one definitely runs large. I ordered down to an XXS and it fits much more like my usual XS.
8) Another Comfortable, Dramatic Top!
But Make It Eyelet…
Oh hi another cotton blouse that is getting all of the things right. Sizes are going fast in the black, but there’s an aqua color that screams summer and a white version that is just modern and preppy enough. Love that the eyelet details are all over the entire blouse, not just the front (wouldn’t expect J.Crew to cut corners like that, but you never know), and it ties at the back of the neck, which is a pretty detail if you’ve got a short ‘do or you wear your hair up. Length works for tucking — or not. Fit is TTS; wearing an XS.
9) This Pretty Dang Basic Bikini
(& That’s A Good Thing)
Welp, it happened. I’m on the internet wearing a bikini. Telling myself there probably aren’t enough pictures of real bodies wearing bikinis on fashion blogs, so…that’s what we’re here for! This is a pretty classic J.Crew suit — I wanted something that would have more support and staying power than a string biking but that would also provide a little tanning opportunity (to be clear: I SLATHER on the SPF and still end up with tan lines, so it’s not like I’m heading out intending to get roasted), and this is perfect for just that. Good, middle of the road suit in a color that is way outside of my usual (black) but kinda lovely all the same. (Loads more colors, too — with varying prices and size availability.) Fit is TTS; I’m a 34C and wearing a S top and a S bottom. Note that the band is not adjustable but the straps are, so if you’re broader chested, you might size up.
10) Oppa Gingham Style!
Just a little bit obsessed with this suit. Gingham, yes! And I love the matte fabrication, too. Think…seersucker without the…suckers? Puckers? You know what I mean. It’s always easier to get sizing right when it’s bra sizing, too, like in this instance. The straps can be worn traditionally or tied around the neck, which is maybe a bit more pin-uppy (I pictured both) — and while the bottoms are kinda skimpy at first blush, they have decent bum coverage.
Bonus! Snag These Timeless Black Booties
For A Steal
I threw these into the mix because they were so heavily discounted and they felt like a timeless wardrobe addition if you’re in the market for a low-heeled black bootie. They’re…as expected. Beautiful, well-made, and suede always feels a bit more seasonless than straight up leather. Nothing ground breaking in terms of the design, but that’s kinda the point of a piece like this. Would probably wear them most with skinnies, midi skirts/dresses or long flares that skim the ground. Fit is TTS; wearing an 8.
