Jess’ Go-to Holiday Outfit: Velvet + Leather

My favorite place to visit during the Holiday season here in Grand Rapids is the Downtown Market. If you live in West Michigan chances are you’ve already been (and love it) and if you’re just passing through, it’s definitely worth a visit. Home to an expansive 24 vendor market hall that’s packed with inspiring local vendors: artisan foods, wines, gift boutiques, bakeries, clothing and decorated to the tills during the Holiday Season, the Downtown Market never fails to get me into the Holiday spirit. It’s a great place to connect with friends over coffee or a glass of wine,  shop for Holiday gifts AND the perfect opportunity for me to break out my new favorite Holiday outfit.

In past years, my holiday outfits have centered around skirts or dresses (which I love), but since they were such dressy looks, and not very warm to boot, I usually only wore them once over the holiday season. This year’s outfit: a Blank NYC Vegan Pant, velvet cami and slouchy cardigan, is so much more versatile and functional, that I could almost wear them everyday!

Outfit Details:

cardigan –  Tarte’s Faizora Wrap, originally $172.00 but on sale at Nordstroms Rack for $59.97.  Deep shades of reds like burgundy and cerise are one of my favorite colors to wear during the Holiday season plus they transition well for the rest of winter.

cami – Banana Republic’s Black Velvet Cami, $68.00. As a kid, I couldn’t stand the feel of velvet and even though I’ve pretty much grown out of that, sometimes too much velvet can be overwhelming, which is why a velvet camisole is the perfect accent piece and you’re in luck because lush velvet camis like this and this are everywhere right now.

pants – Blank Denim’s Vegan Leather Embroidered Skinny Pants, I knew I had to have these pants the first time I saw them, although I admit I was a little worried they would look ‘try hard’ on me but all I felt when I put them on for the first time was bad a$$ [Insert smiley with sunglasses emoji].

booties – Franco Sarto’s Delight Boots and Vince Camuto’s Linford Booties are both similar to the ones I’m wearing.

bag – Sole Society’s Selena Faux Leather Backpack available at Nordstroms in Burgundy and Slate as well.

necklace – Ettika Layered Choker in Gold, $39.00 at Revolve.

Happy Holiday hunting ya’ll! It’s snowing here today so that makes it official in my book!

Jess

  1. Already ordered the vegan pants & cannot wait for them to arrive – yikes! Sure needed something new in my wardrobe to spruce up the holiday events, thank you Jess Ross & TME

  2. I’m absolutely loving living vicariously through these gorgeous holiday outfit posts you’ve been adding to the website. As a gal who will be 8 months pregnant when Christmas rolls around, I’d love to see some maternity options too. Thanks for considering:)

    • Hey Emilie,
I swore I replied to your comment earlier but it must not have gone through. There are one pair of highly rated maternity faux leather pants in the above boutique by Tart. But thanks for bringing that too my attention, I’ll be on the look out.

  3. How did I miss that you are a Grand Rapids girl?!? Me too! I am obsessed with your pants but with 10 mo old triplets and a 3.5 yr old my life has zero occasions to wear those. Give me a few years…

    • Hooray!!! Finally found me a fellow Grand Rapids girl! Also, don’t over think it, they’re just like any other pants really…The only difference is you might have a sudden desire to buy a Harley and smoke a cigarette or do something else super irresponsible/ dangerous like drink a whole bottle of wine once you put them on.

  4. I just picked up that you are in GR too! Home city of my alma mater- miss it! Love the outfit- especially the pants, love the texture!

    • thanks Christine, they’re the only pair of faux leather pants I’ve found like that! Also, I’m a recent convert to everything Michigan and besides the 6 months of crippling winters, I love everything about it.
