It might be the most wonderful time of the year, but it’s definitely the busiest! It seems every weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas is booked solid – we’ve got gingerbread house decorating, casual get-togethers at friends’ houses, school holiday concerts and a bunch more that I’m forgetting. With all that to keep straight, I don’t have time to think of a new holiday outfit for every event, so I’m going to do what I do every year – pick one versatile go-to outfit that can cover all the bases.
This year, it’s a mod mini swing dress, warm tights or leggings (depending on how dressy/grown-up the event), booties and a cute, cozy jacket. It’s virtually foolproof and is a great option for postpartum mamas or those with “gentle” bellies (saw that in a reader comment & loved!). I started early this year and wore it to a friend’s outdoor October wedding – the faux fur jacket was a big hit among my friends who were freezing in their sleeveless dresses! It’s the ultimate holiday outfit formula for minimal effort and maximum comfort, just my style.

Holiday Outfit Details
Mod mini dress – Smock Neck & Cuff Print Shift Dress So easy, comfy & cute and under $30! (Juniors sizing, so runs a tad small) More sizes here & also in a gorgeous violet solid
Faux fur jacket – BB Dakota Jada Jacket This was definitely a lucky find, I’ve worn it a million times already. It’s the perfect neutral (sometimes the more colorful faux fur jackets make me feel like a muppet) and an open moto-style that you can wear over anything.
Tights – Spanx Luxe Leg Blackout Tights, Very Black Thick & lovely, these are regular waist but also come in a high waist version. They are pitch black, not see-through whatsoever, so they’re almost like leggings since the dress is on the shorter side.
Booties – Aurora Bootie (similar) Super versatile & 40% off!
Earrings – (Rebecca Minkoff, old) Similar & gorgeous Melanie Auld
Here are some other pieces I rounded up so you can easily copy my holiday outfit formula for lazy ladies that value comfort over everything!

Also, short stack is in love with this cute little quilted jacket Joules sent over – it’s perfect for the November-but-not-really weather we’ve been having in the Northeast lately. (And they sent along a 20% off coupon good through 11/30 for our readers, if you’re interested it’s MOMED20). These cheerful wellies are a perfect match for the lining, which is absolutely adorable. No struggle to get a fickle toddler to put on a jacket makes mama happy (so do the tiny elbow patches! eee!)
Love the jacket! Looks to be one size fits most…how does it fit?
Hi Wendy! Thanks – I’m wearing a medium & it’s true to size. 🙂
In LOVE with the jacket. Looks like its sold out everywhere…only size I can find is L. Dying to get my hands on it…any idea where to find it in a S? Thanks for a wonderful inspiring blogg!
Hi Mia! Thanks for your note – I searched all over for a S but no luck – here are some good alternatives: http://rstyle.me/n/b6qn5zbdi6f http://rstyle.me/n/b6qn9dbdi6f http://rstyle.me/n/b6qphebdi6f hope that helps, xo Amanda
Also – my friend Robyn just found a look-alike at Target today, but it’s not online – I’d check your local store!
The smock neck dress is adorable. I’m 5’7″, 140 lbs and am right between M/L or 10/12. I’m wondering with the junior sizing if I should order a L or XL for the length. Amy suggestions?
Hi Rebecca! It’s *definitely* a short dress, so not sure how much length you’d gain by going with XL, it might just be swingier. But if you definitely want to wear with tights, worth a try!
Love the floral print on the dress. Winter can be so bleh that a pop of spring print just shows your not giving into the bad weather. And i love tights with boots, i kind of live in them right now, love the ankle boots.

Hi Emmaly, glad you like it! Even I need a break from gray/black/navy when winter rolls around – I was drawn to this dress because of the gorgeous fall color palette Laura mentions here: http://themomedit.com/2016/09/nursing-friendly-fall-trends/#more-29492
Love this look!
Thanks, Mel!
