You know when you have those jean shorts? The really, really good pair – the ones you want to pull out of the clothes pile from yesterday…every day, because they’re just so good. They go with your favorite tee and sneaks; that boho, flowy top you wear with strappy sandals; the little, silky black tank you slink on when you’re feeling saucy; and they’re what you shake sand off of and pull on over your swimsuit to take that barefoot walk on the beach.
The jean shorts.
We’ve all had them at some point in time, in some style or another. I mean, right??
Thinking about it now, I guess I’ve really only had a couple of pairs I’d consider to be that in my lifetime…and sadly, I haven’t had them for a while now. I’ve been getting by with “okay”.
Well, so…while feeling that caffeine buzz from my morning coffee (that’s usually when I shop, heh), I ordered six pairs of Levi jean shorts. I had hopes of simply finding a decent pair for the summertime – something comfortable and relatively cool looking. I realized I didn’t even own a single pair of Levi’s shorts. How? After getting the box full, I tried each pair on…and, after finding that I couldn’t really find anything I disliked about any of them, I decided to break out the tripod and self-timer snap them on me.
I had to.
It seemed like the right thing to do. Some of you may really want to find those shorts, but just haven’t stumbled across them yet (because that’s usually how you find them, by the way). Also, if you’re still not 100% sold on the power of Levi’s (even after mine & Julieta’s solid representation of them), maybe this will get ya. 😉
On that note, ladies…hemhemhem. I may have found the pair once again.
Let’s get into this Levi’s goodness then…
The 501 Cutoff
Threadbare deconstruction, severe raw edge, and the light wash on this pair is really perfect for the summertime. Also, love the fact that they are high rise, BUT also have some length to them (okay, not Bermuda shorts, people. ha ha. don’t murder me ;)). I mean, there’s enough length to the legs that they don’t show any bum cheek.
Fit Notes: High rise, 2.25″ inseam. They seemed a bit stiff, like any classic pair of Levi’s. I found they did loosen up after about an hour or so of wear.
The 501 Altered Zip
Oh, heck yes. I love a side zipper on a pair of shorts. Especially ones that do not unzip with any small movement of the leg. The vintage wash is awesome, too.
Fit Notes: 2.5″ inseam, straight fit. These had a bit more give to them and sit lower on the waist. They are a high rise, but in my opinion, having tried them on…they sit a bit lower than the others I tried on.
The Wedgie High Waist Cutoff
Not being a fan of the wedgie style, I was surprised to find that I liked these. They hug the hips, which helps to make me look a little bit more curvy…or so I tell myself.
Fit notes: Super-high waist, 2.5″ inseam, runs a bit small, hugs at waist line…which flatters the curves (or is meant to, anyways).
shorts: Levi’s Wedgie High Waist Cutoff Short (Blue Your Mind) – says they run small, but I stuck with my normal 27 and they fit fine. I mean, they were maybe slightly a bit tight (and I am slightly between sizes at the moment), but I just figure after a couple of wears they will stretch out enough. If you have some curves OR prefer a more slouchy/bf look, consider sizing up one. Also available in a similar wash at Levi’s.
The 501 High Waist Cutoff
A real vintage vibe, with shredded hem. These are great for a longer short…and I like the way they fit in the bum area. I see these being the key to successfully wearing a pretty crop top. Depending on the length of the top, it should meet at the waistline of these shorts.
Fit notes: 2.5″ inseam, fits small, also hugs at the waist to create a more curvy look…and I could see that in the bum area.
The 501 Cuffed Long Short
This is another pair that surprised me. I hadn’t found a pair of cuffed shorts that I liked on yet, but these are not bad at all. It could possibly be the length, which is a little longer than the other ones I’ve come across…almost in Bermuda territory. I liked that they were a bit slouchy, too, but only slightly.
Fit notes: 5.5″ uncuffed inseam, fits small-ish, not too tight in the leg (but I’d maybe go up a size if you like a loose, more bf fit).
& drumroll, please…
The 501 Distressed (& Blinged) Cutoff Denim Shorts
These. These are the ones. YESSSS. I put them on and I knew. They were THE SHORTS. I had found them again. aaaaaa. I love every detail of them — the raw edge in front, slightly longer in the back, distressing, studding. ugh. Hello, my shorts.
Fit notes: Straight fit, 2.5″ inseam, button-fly, if you like fitted…go down a size, but if you like a bit more loose…stick with your normal size (that’s what I did).
Happiness can be found in a good pair of shorts.
I guess we can just round out this try-on sesh w/ a super creative shot I was attempting for this post…
It’s the shorts.
They made me do it.
Here’s to finding yours…or maybe you already have them on. Either way!
Cheers to that.
