My Date Night Outfit Formula That Works Every Time

We used to have 1 date night in a 6-month period during our first years as parents. More or less, I’m not sure. What I’m sure of is that our marriage was suffering.
 
Have you taken the 5 love languages quiz? Or read the book? Well, my main love language is quality time, for Ron it’s second. As much as we’d like it to be true, crashing on the couch to “watch” Netflix “together” — aka fall asleep —  is not quality time. We’ve found that if we don’t plan quality time, we’ll let other things take its place. And it definitely has to be weekly; I’ve noticed when we don’t, we feel disconnected. 
This year on our 9th anniversary, we made a list of things we wanted to do for us:
  • Have two weekends a year without kids — getaway or staycation. Should we go back to Cartagena? Our first trip ever without kids. I wish, but this year we can’t. In January we celebrated our anniversary at a spa only 30 min away from home. We enjoyed it just as much. It’s not what you do, but who you do it with.
  • Go to a seminary together. Still working on that.
  • Weekly date nights. We decided to alternate one week at home, the other outside. It doesn’t matter whether it’s full dinner, an appetizer and a drink, or another activity. As we’re just establishing this habit, we haven’t gotten very creative yet. Ideas are more than welcome!

My Date Night Outfit Formula = Jeans + Sexy Top + Low Heels 

My favorite date night outfits are those that don’t need a lot of work, yet, help me feel sophisticated. I almost always end up keeping on the same jeans I was wearing all day with a tee. But I LOVE to switch the top. Whether you’re in an office or caring for your kids all day, it’s important to wear a piece that helps you remember you’re more than a mom, employee or boss.
 
And you’ll always see me wearing something in a shade of red, the color of passion, desire and love. I believe the colors we wear show different sides of our personalities. So for date nights, I find a piece in a shade of red that flatters my skin tone. Husband always compliments me!

Don’t forget to refresh your makeup, apply some dry shampoo, and you’re ready for some adult time! 

Outfit Details

Top –  Not sure how it would work if you had bigger boobs. But make sure to check all the trailer pics, there’s a size S and size L model showing how it looks. Full honesty here, I spent way more than I usually do on this top. But! It was exactly the top I’d been looking for in months. The color, design and quality…everything. I’m also a big fan of Song of Style and loved her collection.  97% cotton with 3% elastane, lined in rayon – I hate when things are lined with polyester. You’ll see me wearing the heck out of it, you know…to lower that CPW. 

Jeans – Another thing that if you follow me on IG, you know I wear 1-2 times a week. WEEKLY. Contrary to my rigid denim, these have some stretch, are soft and break-in super fast. Size down if between sizes. 

Shoes – Last year I took the plunge on this style of shoe. I got these from Zara to see if they’d be practical for me. A year and 1,000 wears later, I can say they are. SO I’m ready to invest in better quality like these Vaneli I’ve been eyeing for years. Not lying! They are not trendy, they are timeless. 

Bag – since my last post, I’ve received a lot of questions about it. I got it in a small boutique in White Plains, NY, its name is Lola NY in case you’re local. This one from Etsy is beautiful though

  3. The top looks way better on you than the model! I definitely wouldn’t have gone for the shirt based on model pictures but your photos show it off much better. Might have to try it on for myself!
