Weekend 7.12

2

Hey Gang! This week is always our wildest. Everyone still in the office Thursday night went out for drinks (we’re missing some really key people in this photo – sob!!) and it was pretty funny to hear the NSale post-mortem from our three interns who were new to the madness this year.

I don’t know if I’ve really gotten into the details before, but the first day the NSale opens, there’s a bunch of us who are up at 5:30AM getting ready, so we can get into Nordstrom right at 7AM. We do an initial try-on in-store, then head back to Philly for the bulk of the work. It basically takes our entire team all day & night to turn around my try-on article, Linzi’s, and our videos as fast as we can. In past years, our team didn’t go home until, uh, 5AM. Only to repeat the whole thing all over again the next day (hiiii Affordable Edit). This year, however, we were outta there around 2AM each day – HUGE improvement, haha.

But yeah: the interns. Weirdest job ever.

This is the time of year when Gwen and I typically have our little “pinch me” moment. The first round (or two) of interns we ever hired are now, basically, not just employees but actual bosses in charge, and watching them just freaking bloom has been one of my greatest joys. If you’ve been enjoying our content this year (including our pop up shops!!) it’s because of this absolute rockstar team.

A couple of things:

1. We’re constantly fighting with Google and YouTube algorithms to get our content out there, and your clicks help. If you have a moment, clicking on our Affordable Edit post will help boost it’s rankings, as well as any of our NSale videos (mine, Julieta’s, and Scotti’s).

2. Our hearts go out to the Texas flood victims – I cannot even begin to imagine the reality many are currently facing. We’re donating to this verified GoFundMe that that goes directly to families/ community members impacted by the flooding. They’re currently at about halfway to their funding goal. If you’re able, any little bit helps.

The NSale AG Jeans Scotti and I both loved (literally never happens) are sold out, but they’re also on sale at Bloomingdales and Amazon. Nordstrom also has another similar wash on sale, too. Fits TTS.

What a Racket: An anonymous (haha love the intrigue) reader just tipped us off that the sold-out Pistola sweater in the NSale is currently on sale at Nordstrom Rack! If you bought it at the NSale, immediately request a price adjustment from Nordstrom and save yourself another $40!!!! (But if you were bummed to miss it in the Nsale, don’t wait – I don’t know how much stock is actually there.) As annoyed as I am by Nordstrom’s shell game, this sweater is pretty freaking great (100% cotton, slouchy-cool, etc), especially for this wildly lower price. I have it in size small, but Linzi liked the medium (not her normal size) so I suspect the sizing is pretty forgiving.

Not Freda. Our Discord community has also been buzzing about these Fisherman sandals from Nordstrom Rack and they look EXACTLY like my Freda Salvador ones! Ang, our CMO, ended up buying them and they really do look the same (and are seriously comfy, too). They’re faux-leather, but on sale for…$39! Bananas.

Last time, then I’ll shut up: Here’s one more plug for these blue floral GAP jeans. Yes, they run big, but it’s part of their charm. These “jeans” are super soft (I might wear them on our upcoming overnight flight) and I think they’re a vastly superior to a similar pair from Dries and/or Veronica Beard. FWIW.

Never enough floral. And pair ’em with this $26 top.

But if you prefer your floral jeans embroidered…OMG THESE!!!!

Why yes I do want a bias-cut midi skirt in freaking TOMATO PRINT, thank u very much.

Is it too much to pair that skirt with this Aperol Spritz tee? Didn’t think so. 😉

Confirmed: it’s great. I finally got my hands on this Maison De Sabre sling bag (I bought the blue leather) and love it SO freaking much. There’s a picture of me wearing it somewhere (our special newsletter, I think), but I can have Aliya throw up up on social, too.

If anyone was bummed that this Veronica Beard bag sold out at the NSale…we just got this Olga Berg bag in and it’s oddly GOOD. A similar shape and vibe.

The one thing I discovered in our Prime Day article that literally stopped me in my tracks and prompted an IMMEDIATE order? These stupid things, haha. (In my defense, Ailya had just pulled out this beautifully organized pouch with all the wrapped cords in it. I was smitten.)

New color! My beloved Reef Ginger flipflops (the only ones that don’t rub uncomfortably between my toes) finally came out with a new color: cream/tan. Ordered.

I’ve lost the will to cook. The only thing I’ve found even remotely appealing is this recipe for Crispy Chickpea Corn Patties with a really bright, refreshing slaw.

Enjoy the weekend!

xo,

  1. It has been such a rough week here in Texas. So much unbelievable sadness and love for people we knew and the ones we didn’t. Thank you for linking the go fund me. Trying to find normalcy in all of this pain is hard but I love your coverage of the Nordstrom sale and it was fun to read, click on links and order this year! Y’all do great work and I appreciate it all! xo

  2. Thanks for the heads up on the Pistola sweater. I contacted Nordstrom and they matched the price at Nordstrom Rack, even though the sweater is sold out. Hopefully the sweater fits when it arrives tomorrow!
