Y’all know getting ready for a beach vacay in the middle of winter is…daunting. White legs, holiday/winter tummy in full effect (I’ve been baking way too much lately), etc. It’s all good though. If you have a trip coming up for spring break or just to escape to somewhere warm soon, I’ve got your back. Here’s what I actually wore on my recent trip to Southwest Florida last month, no shorts included.
The Versatile Jumpsuit
My favorite item (one of the few new pieces I purchased) for the trip was this amazing jumpsuit. It’s a perfect coverup for the beach, but can easily work as a daytime outfit with a cute tank or muscle tee underneath. I wanted to live in this thing.

Jumpsuit – My exact jumpsuit is only left in the clay color or similar in this yellow, but in black still for tall or extended sizes. This one is similar too, though and super cute. OH, and this one from Amazon could be good!
Slides – These are so comfy. My new favorite sandal. TTS, and I love the stud detail on the sides.
The Animal Print Skirt
I picked this little number up a month or so ago, and didn’t realize how much I’d love a breezy statement skirt. It’s so versatile and easy to throw on with a white tee. I like a black bra showing through for some edginess, and these black slides are my JAM. They were so comfy even as we walked all over South Beach.

Skirt – Super cute and versatile. I’ve worn it with a cropped sweater, ankle boots and sparkly socks, too. Also with OTK boots and a sweater when it was cold. Love it.
Slides – These are so comfy. My new favorite sandal. TTS and I love the stud detail on the sides.
The Swimsuit
I know. This is the hardest part, but here’s what I have started to do. Get a good quality spray tan, do a few core workouts before you go, and then just don’t care. Get in the dang bikini and play with your kiddo on the beach and feel good about being a mama. Is my stomach as flat and muscle-y as I’d like it to be? No. But I workout regularly, I got a suit I feel comfortable in and it’s OK. Soak up the vitamin D, read a good book, go for a walk, and flaunt your new fav bikini.

Swimsuit top & swimsuit bottom – I love this bikini and that’s saying a lot. It fits well and is comfortable and holds the right things in place. The bottoms cover well but aren’t matronly. It’s a real keeper! Runs TTS or a little bit big. Wearing a Small here and the bottoms are roomy, but not too big.
Flowy Pants & A Knotted Tee
I LOVE this look. It’s comfy, beachy and not shorts. I love shorts as an option when I’m super fit or a little more tan or whatevs, but mid-winter? Yeah, no. Flowy pants in fun prints or a cute unexpected color are so great. Knot your tee at your waist if you are short-torso’d like me, and it’s nice and flattering. And how cute is my mom?!
Graphic tee (similar)
Pants (similar) – I had trouble finding a navy polka dot pair I liked, but I love this rust colored pair with the tiny dots. SO cute and a similar sailor cut to mine.
Taupe tee – For a great, reasonably priced tee, I LOVE Alternative Apparel. Their clothing runs slightly smaller, but I still wear a small in their thinner tees as they do relax with wear.
Yellow pants – Mine are A&F from last summer, but the color and shape look super close!
Tan slides – Super-soft leather. I love love these. I will get a lot of wear out of them in this color with jeans, dresses and eventually shorts when I wear them. Ha.

Who’s going somewhere fun? Let us know if you find something great to wear! I took this set, too, which I love, but didn’t get a good picture. Doh. And I wound up wearing the skirt also with this slightly cropped tee. The sun is out in Portland today and making me wish for Spring for sure! Hope you’re getting some good vitamin D where you are, too!

Great post! I nabbed the leopard skirt after being sorely disappointed a few days ago when I was smitten with a similar one from H&M only find that it was sold out in every size that might possibly fit me.
I love the pic of you and your daughter in your swimsuits! I love your black scalloped one and her watermelon one. You both look fantastic and HAPPY!
After having three kids and my varicose veins getting worse with each kid I despise shorts but find them to be a necessary evil at times. THIS post saves me. Thanks! And you are killing that black swimsuit.
This post was amazing! I loved everything! I need to find a leaopard skirt. You are a rockstar in the bikini and I love your daughters suit too! Thank you!
Laura, you look fantastic in that black suit!
You look fantastic don’t apologize. And your mom is gorgeous! Thanks for the cute breezy beach looks.
Will be making some Vit D gulfside of FL in a few weeks myself, so super helpful. These MN legs are so pale they’re almost blue – so yeah, no shorts. Extra special thanks to you, Laura, for including the extended sizes link for your versatile jumpsuit! This extended-size mama loves and appreciates it!!! ??
Gosh, I hate wearing shorts too. I’m glad I’m not the only one! I love what you said about wearing your suit. You look great!
I’m a huge fan of shorts, but it’s hard to find the right ones. Even though I love shorts, I really like all of these ideas! I’m glad you found those black sandals, because I’m buying them! You look great in your swimsuit, too. You hit it outta the park here, Laura!
Agreed with everyone’s comments – great post! I only wear shorts when it gets super hot in the summer. And these are all great alternatives! you are adorable and you are rocking that bikini! and Sienna and your Mom are also adorable. Great post – love your style!
