I mean…sometimes a trend takes a while to…ya know…sink in. And while my first reaction to Dad sneaks was visceral (basically recoiling in horror, if I recall correctly) after a few years of chunky sneakers, I’m starting to appreciate their quirky bad-girl charm. And, like all trends, the Dad sneak trend has evolved. The chunky sneakers out there now are less I Stole This From My Dad In 1997 and more…statement sneaker.
I’m in.
Anyway, there are a bunch of cool chunky sneakers I’ve been eyeing up. These seem like a good solution for changing up my vibe in a practical (yet fun) way…especially since 99.9% of the time I’m just in jeans and a sweater. God knows that part’s not gonna change.
1. Zadig & Voltaire Zv1747 High Flash Sneakers
THESE. These are high (so high!!) on my wishlist right now. Zadig & Voltaire sold me on these sneakers via some IG commercial (of which I can no longer find), but suffice to say, they basically ran through a series of outfits using these sneakers (skinny jeans! crops! faux leather! joggers! bare legs!,) and they looked cool and slightly edgy with EVERYTHING.
2. Reebok Classic Leather Legacy Sneakers
These brightly colored sneakers are so NOT my usual vibe…but that’s kinda why I like them. They’re like a rainbow on your feet. I’m picturing these with gray jeans & socks.
3. Puma Cali Sport Wildcats Sneakers
I love the bold black and white, and the pattern play going on. These look MUCH more expensive than they are.
4. Nike React Art3mis Sneakers
These look like shoes from the future, and I am here for it. (Also, the colorway is so…pretty.) I’m picturing these with light-wash jeans and pastel (or ivory) sweaters.
5. Puma Future Rider Wildcats Animal Print Sneakers
Oooo…these are like the gateway sneaker to the chunky sneaker trend. Wear this one like a neutral: with everything.
6. Puma Future Rider Play On Sneakers
Laura and I both LOVE the Play On sneaker — it’s insanely comfortable. There are a ton of really fun colorways, but I might like this one the best. I think these could perk up a black jean — gray sweater uniform verrrry nicely.
7. Zadig & Voltaire Future Chunky Water Resistant Sneakers
These are the most Dadish of all of the sneaks featured. But they have cool lines, little pops of red, and I think…I think I might be ready. I’d wear with skinnies, socks, and add some sort of menswear top coat. So cool.
8. Ash Eclipse Sneakers
These are built like a tank. But…I have a feeling they might be the most foolproof of the bunch.
Is anyone else re-thinking their stance on Dad sneaks? Or…Dad-ish sneakers, maybe? If I missed one of your favorites, shout it out below…I’m genuinely curious.

Your number one pic is drastically different than the others and that’s a sneaker I can get on board with. An comparable but less expensive options alo mg the style of number one?
Yes, I’m coming around to these. I love the Puma Play On, but what is the plastic rectangle on the side at the heel?
So, I’m not quite on board with Dad Sneaks yet, but I also said I wasn’t going to do scrunchies again, and yet I had two new cashmere scrunchies delivered yesterday, so, never say never, I guess! That being said, I am really digging the Nike ones posted here. They look so cool!
