We’re in North Carolina! We drove down last week and the drive took…a bit longer than expected. We made multiple stops: some due to car trouble and others due to…shopping?? I mean, not only have I not been out of Michigan in a very long time, but I haven’t been into a store like Nordstrom or J.Crew in what seems like forever.
Denim Shorts, Matching Sets & More Cute Summer Pieces At J.Crew
So when my friend (at whose house we were staying in Chicago) suggested we extend our trip for a day of shopping, I was all about it. I was literally giddy with excitement when I walked through the doors to try on all the things. I loved being able to feel the fabrics and see the colors and have my choice of sizes! Here are my favorites from J. Crew right now:
This dress is so lightweight and floaty! It’s made from organic cotton and is so comfortable, it makes the perfect cover-up. (Also in white and a pretty light purple.)
Fit notes: I love the easy fit that isn’t tight or restrictive, and the fabric is super soft.
I love J. Crew’s Seaside Pants, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that the short version was pretty awesome. These come in a ton of colors and in sizes xxs-3x.
Fit notes: I loved being able to actually try these shorts on — the medium size (the one I would have ordered) was not flattering at all, but the small was perfect. Super easy to dress up or down, too.
I’m always looking for the perfect denim shorts and these might just be them! I have my favorite Tomgirl midi shorts from American Eagle, but these are a nice alternative when I don’t want the distressed look. *PS, the shirt above was SO soft and lightweight, and I’m obsessed with those sleeves! (Also in light pink or light mint.)
Fit notes: The length is perfect: not too long and not too short (not to mention that wash!).
Denim Shorts With a Fun Top
I love the fluttery sleeves on this easy tank that’s an extra 50% off the sale price! (Also in white.)
…And A Sweater Blazer
Ok, I’m not sure this is the best outfit all together, but I was so happy to be able to try on the Sophie Sweater Blazer in multiple sizes at once to finally get it right!
Fit notes: I sized down to the xxs for the fit I like–I normally would wear s or xs in blazers, but this one runs a bit big. It’s a great alternative to a cardigan and the easiest way to dress up just about any outfit.
4. J.Crew Ribbed Cotton-Cashmere Matching Set
Ok, I admit this might not be the most flattering set, but OMG is it comfortable! I love the laid-back vibe of the set together, but just the hoodie alone is perfect. This set is perfect for summer nights. Also in tan or navy.
Fit notes: It does run big, but I think I like that oversized vibe.
5. J.Crew Magic Rinse Matching Set
Speaking of sets, I fell in love with this set on the hanger. It’s part of J. Crew’s Magic Rinse, “a special four-step process that makes our sweats fabric so soft, you’ll just have to feel it to believe it.” If nothing else, this hoodie goes with all the things…and who doesn’t love a comfy hoodie?
Fit notes: The fabric is awesome. Lightweight and perfectly drapey. The shorts aren’t as flattering as I hoped (those of you who saw this on Facebook agree!), but again–SO comfy (and they come in a ton of colors).
