We’re three weeks into school-from-home, I woke up this morning to a headbutt to the face from an apparently iron-skulled 5-year-old (that required ice and the whole nine yards! on my part, of course; she’s fine) — and now finally, finally there is a beach and a cocktail calling my name, so I’m going to keep this brief, friends.
Sneakers, Joggers, Jeans & More: Emily’s Labor Day Sales Top 10
If you’re looking for a deal this Labor Day, here are 10 solid items that I own, love and genuinely use with regularity — to the point where I’d happily pay full price for them again. On sale, of course, they’re even better.
Adidas has 25% off most everything right now with code SALE25, and I can’t not mention these Cloudfoam Pure Sneakers. I wear these daily for HIIT workouts — they’re lightweight, supportive, SO comfy and even after housing the sweatiest of sockless feet, they don’t accumulate stink. They get plenty of wear with leggings and a sweater for sunset walks, too. I have the white, but I wish this cool gray with tonal silver accents was available when I bought mine. On sale, and with the additional 25% off, they’re $42. Such a steal. I sized down half.
As long as we’re shopping the Adidas sale, let’s add these guys to the list. These are my most-worn joggers — to the point where I’ve ordered a second pair so I can rotate on laundry days. I wear these for lounging, pre- and post-swim class with the little (because of COVID, the teachers are keeping their distance, so I’m in the pool with her) — yet they’re also chic with a sweater (much like how I’m wearing a similar pair in this post) or with a slinky-ish cami and the Paul Green sneakers (below) for kind of a streetwear vibe. Can’t recommend them enough. True to size.
I’ve mentioned these a few times and yet somehow they haven’t been the subject of a dedicated post, so here’s the deal: buttery soft leather; a height that’s somewhere between a mid-top and a high-top; a cushy, lightweight insole (in fact, the whole shoe is lighter than it looks). And something about the way the vamp is designed, they make feet look tiny. Just a SUPER comfy, luxe shoe that is worth the price tag, especially considering the price per wear (and the sale!). I’d almost rather be wearing them than not wearing them. True to size.
I’m always so pleasantly surprised when I make the return to skinny jeans, and at this price, they’re worth it if you’re tempted to do the same. These are really freaking flattering, and they’re available in loads of washes, but the dark rinse looks polished and classic as we get into fall. (Basic as it may be, skinnies + sweaters will always be a thing.) True to size.
OK, technically I don’t own this cardigan yet, but it’s like the lovechild of two of my favorite Abercrombie cardigans from last year (the one pictured with the skinny jeans in #4, above, and another longer, waffle knit open front cardigan) and really close in size and shape to that shrug-esque cropped sweater situation Shana was rocking last fall that immediately became hard to find. I feel endlessly confident that it’s going to be a favorite of the season. In charcoal, too. Decisions, decisions…
6. rag & bone Dre Low Rise Slim Boyfriend Jeans
Still making the case for these low-rise jeans, with the caveat that they’re not the low-rise jeans of 2001 that has you cringing as we speak. Rather, they’re hip-slung (which somehow feels both sexier and lower maintenance in description) and the “slim boyfriend” fit genuinely has kind of an off-duty model feel that’s just begging for a white tee or tank. Off 5th has two washes on sale for 65% off right now, which is about half of what the same style was going for in the NSale: a cool light wash here, and a perfect medium blue with light distressing here. And friends — the fit on these is way more flattering than in the pictures shown on the website. You’re just going to have to trust me (and Chris, who advocated for them enough that I bought a second pair). I wear my true size in these.
Pretty sure it doesn’t get more classic that this — it’s easily the first thing I reach for when I want to add a jacket but I don’t need the weight and bulk of something puffy or wool. Loads of washes available and nearly all of them are on sale. Fit is intentionally oversized; I’m wearing my usual XS.
8. Colleen Rothschild…well, everything
If you can’t tell, the TME team has a bit of an obsession with Colleen Rothschild, and there’s a reason we agree to partner with the brand time and again: it’s seriously effective. I’ve been using Colleen Rothschild products for almost a month, and since I wrote my initial review, my experience has only improved. The Radiant Cleansing Balm really does soothe like a mini-spa treatment (I actually look forward to washing my face), but it’s these Glycolic Acid Peel Pads that feel like they’re delivering spa-level results — less redness, way more toned, radiant skin — without irritation. That said, everything is 20% off with code LBDAY20, and I’ve yet to find a product that doesn’t impress.
9. Instant Pot
Update: my sweet momma just informed me the latest model of the 6-quart is on sale for 40% off ($59!) at Target! Find it here.
As the weather turns (and it looks more and more like this shelter life will continue into fall and winter), I know how heavily I’ll use my Instant Pot for easy family meals — and I’m sure I’ll be developing a few TME recipes for it, too. I’m genuinely not a fan of kitchen gadgets, so it almost annoys me how much I’ve come to rely on this. (It’s worth it for the easy-to-peel eggs, alone!) If you don’t have one yet, the exact model I use (and I don’t see needing anything fancier) is on sale this weekend — and if you’re cooking smaller batches, the fancy version of the 3-quart size is on sale, too. Both are also on sale at Amazon (my 6-quart here, the 3-quart here, if you’d rather shop there.
(Update Nordstrom is price-matching, if you’d rather shop there! And on Backcountry, if the sale price isn’t showing, click through the colors – the majority are on sale, but a few are still full price.)
These packs hardly ever go on sale — especially from a reputable retailer where you know you’re buying the real deal, so this is a good one, guys. I can’t overstate how often we use this pack, both pre-COVID and now. It’s the perfect size for exploring a city by day, or for running around town for errands, and now we use it for toting things back and forth to the beach, or to school (we swap materials every Friday) or to our friend’s house for playdates. (Make no mistake: that apostrophe is correctly placed because we are in a bubble with one other family, which means there is exactly one friend’s house to visit.) The real key to the success of this pack is this felt organizer, which is practically custom fit and creates a place for stashing every last thing. If you need to swap packs for some reason, you can just move the organizer over, too. Might seem silly to buy a pack on sale and then add another piece, but it more than doubles the function of the pack. Such a stellar combo.
Have a great long weekend, friends!
