When it gets really hot out, even this jeans-lover wears flowy dresses. My trick to making them my own with a less-precious, not overly feminine vibe?

High tops, of course.

Swoon-Worthy & Affordable: 2 Casual Maxi Dresses For Summer

Per usual, this artist & designer is picky about her prints, so when I was recently perusing Amazon for flowy dresses and caftans for summer, I was stoked to come across two I actually adore. I promptly ordered them up and tried them on for yas! Welcome to my front porch.

1. The Pretty Floral Maxi Dress

Mirror selfies are my jam forever and ever (thank you mirror selfies), but ahhhhh, it was nice to step outside for a picture. And the hubs and I didn’t even get into an argument this time! It must be almost-summer.

I adore this dress. You may have seen it recently on Instagram, but it’s a lovely print, it’s also flowy, lightweight, AND and and — it’s only $27! Wearing a size small here (and I’m 5’4″ 32DD for reference). My friend who is bustier tried it the other day, and said you may need to size up if you are on the busty side. It’s a comfy, linen-feeling blend that doesn’t stick to you and isn’t too heavy. It comes in a TON of other cute prints, too. Serious score, friends.

2. This Caftan Dress In A Fun Print

OK, so I ADORE the print of this dress. It may be a little big for me, though, and it’s one-size-fits-most. I cinched the waist in with the drawstring and that definitely helps. Alas, it’s only $25!

I wanted a caftan to float around the house in, and while this print and colors are AMAZINGNESS, the fabric and fit are not exactly what I was wanting. It’s a polyester and a little static-y, but I love the slit up the front for keeping it from being too mumsy. And gah, I just can’t get over the colors. This would be a perfect coverup for swim season.

What’s the verdict for you? I think I’m keeping the top floral print to float around in and may try again on the caftan. Have you been drooling over the Emerson Fry caftans forever like I have? I think with those in mind it’s hard to move to another style. I ordered one to try that hasn’t arrived yet, but I’ll give my thoughts when it does! Happy floaty dress shopping, my friends. Until next time…

  1. Wow! Love the two you’re modeling and the other choices. The Amazon one is back-ordered but… I don’t think I care! The other is gorgeous as well but I think it may fall off my teeny shoulders. I’m just getting into more dresses (tomboy here!) and this post is giving me all sorts of ideas. Love the price points, too. Would you ever put on a t-shirt underneath the Amazon dress, like a slip dress concept? Hmmmm

  2. I ordered the floral one as soon as I saw your IG post, and I’ve already worn it twice! It’s a little sheer (I wouldn’t want to stand in public with the sun behind me) but so lovely and comfy. It makes me feel so dainty and breezy. “I’m breezy!”

  3. I love the idea, but at 5’3 I feel like these would overwhelm me. Any shorter women out there who can weigh in or offer alternate versions (e.g., something a bit shorter)?

  4. Laura says she’s 5’4″ (above). I’m 5’3″ (maaaaybe 5’4″ on a good day) and the floral dress hits at mid/low shin on me (I got a medium).

  5. Hi! I am 5’3”and I love flowy casual dresses. I find that billowy dress need to be fitted on top for me not to look overwhelmed by them. So, generally i am a small, i ordered a xsmall in the dress. Perfect! Also where it hits on your leg is important, especially is you are wearing it with sneaks. It needs to hit below the widest part of your calf.

  6. Hi! I’m a long time reader and love your sense of style. These dresses are gorgeous. I would love if you would review Fashom. They are a budget friendly styling service with a mission to empower women. I just ordered my first box from them and would value your opinions of their products and service! Thanks!!
