Spring-ish: Two Tops I’m Wearing On Repeat

It is, technically, Spring. Easy to forget, I suppose, when clad in a puffer coat. I do start trotting out an optimistic trench now and again, but it doesn’t last long. Trench Coats Are For May, I’ve discovered. Maaaaybe April. But definitely not March. March is for longing. I long for swimsuits, I long for little summer dresses, I long for sandals and bright pedicures, and to LOSE THE EFFING TURTLENECK ALREADY.

That last part. HARD.

Two Cute Tops Perfect For Spring

There are two tops, however, that I’ve been reaching for to break out of my turtleneck rut. They’re nothing ground-breaking — basically just fancy, long-sleeved t-shirts — but they’re warm enough (especially under that puffer, haha), rather pretty, and make me feel like Spring might actually be coming.

1. The Wrap Top That Can Be Layered

You’ve seen this one before (here). But this faux-wrap top by Bobeau is butter soft, looks cute tucked or un-tucked (I like it tucked) and layers beautifully under sweaters. Right now it’s still fully stocked in a bunch of colors.

top: Faux Wrap Top by Bobeau (wearing a size xs, for reference)

jeans: GRLFND Karolina Skinny Jeans (25) – These jeans keep going out of stock, but they’re some of my favs right now. That link will show you all of the washes that are currently in stock. Mine are old, but as you can see, they basically keep doing the same formula. If you go with petites, be aware that the measurements across the thigh are slightly wider. (Our handy denim comparison chart is here.)

shoes: Everlane Day Glove Flat – These shoes are BUTTER soft. On my first day really wearing them, I was able to walk for over a mile with no issues. LOVE THESE.

trench coat: Banana Republic Water Resistant Classic Trench (xs) – I’m obsessed with this thing. THIS is the trench that I’ve been dying to wear. It’s currently 40% off, too.

2. The Versatile Off-The-Shoulder Top

This one is more long-sleeve-tee when zipped…and rather sexy, unzipped.

top: Free People Nikala Tee (xs) – You get free shipping on orders over $100…so maybe throw this bralette in your cart, too. Tons of good reviews, and would be perfect peeking out.

I love the red Free People top! So cute! And the color is so springy, even if it is still wintery here. I break out all the navy and white stripes to get me through to the actual spring tops!

  2. I got that Bobeau top after a previous review and haven’t figured out how to wear it yet as it is see-through, especially in the back. SO SHEER. Yours does not look sheer at all in the pics so I was surprised by this.

To be fair, I have major back and shoulder tattoos that make a white or nude camisole (or bra) look silly, and a black bra to coordinate with my tats looks both dated and inappropriate for most of the places I was hoping to wear this top. It looks nice from the front though. Any recommendations?

    • Ahhh….I see what you are saying. Mine is a little more sheer in the back…but I have no issues wearing a black bra underneath it. Mine is not that sheer in the front – maybe tucking it in helps? But if I were you, I’d try exchanging it. That’s one of the best things about shopping at Nordstrom – if you are unhappy for any reason, just return it. I’d try either going up one size in the ivory – a looser fit might be more opaque in the front?? – or swapping it out for a different color in your existing size. The black is an obvious choice, but I also like the red.

  3. Off-the-shoulder tops drive me nuts — so impractical for my everyday life, but also they just feel fussy in a way that this mama is just no longer willing to put up with. Nice colors though!
