Vacation and Summer Style: Statement Maxi Dresses

There’s nothing that says vacation like a fun statement maxi dress.  The kind of dress that requires no thought and makes you feel gorgeous . . . we all need a dress like that, right?

We recently went to Lake Havasu to visit Mom & Dad, where they escape from the cold Marquette winters.  It’s pretty much the highlight of our winter . . . we spend the days lounging in the pool (saltwater, no chlorine and heated to the perfect temperature so you can literally spend hours in it) and the nights eating and drinking with Mom and Dad.  Usually I’m wearing a swimsuit or lounging clothes, but I like to bring one “fancy” (i.e. not pajamas) option and this year I fell in love with this lace up dress from Show Me Your Mumu, a brand that does long and flowy really, really well.

This is one of those times where the picture looks so much cooler in your head . . . so Lake Havasu is like this weird mix of retirees wintering there and college spring breakers partying there.  On this walkway you’ll see retirees playing shuffleboard followed by vendors selling beer bongs and skimpy bikinis not a half a mile later.  It’s hilarious.  The place is gorgeous, though . . . we highly recommend visiting!

Show Me Your Mumu Logan Lace Maxi Dress: I’m wearing an XS because the small was too long and I wanted to be able to wear it with flat sandals.  I love that you can lace up the top looser or tighter depending on what you want.  Also available in two other colors and here.

Nickel & Suede Signature Platinum Leather Earrings in Large: I wore these daily . . . super lightweight and comfy to wear.  My favorites.

Gold Leaf Sandals (similar) more similar styles here and here.

Bracelet (similar and currently 30% off, as is this rose gold one that I’m loving)

Plumeria Hair Clip: Get similar clips at this adorable Etsy shop.  I’ve always loved putting a flower in my hair to add some volume to an otherwise pretty small bun!

  1. Any tips/tricks for finding a maxi dress for short women? I’m just over 5′ and most of the maxi dresses that I’ve tried on seem to swallow me whole, even the petite ones. Thanks! You look gorgeous, as always!

  2. I love maxi dresses but I’m always stumped by the bra situation. With post-nursing boobs, braless is just not an option for me anymore, especially at a more formal event. What do you suggest?

    • Yes…absolutely all these dresses either need a strapless bra or no bra which is not an option for some of us. Any dresses that are (regular) bra friendly?
