After a few years of trying on all the clothes I’ve started to realize what pieces I really truly love for each season.
Summer is fine…but always, always give me fall.

5 Must-Have Pieces In My Fall Wardrobe
Fall closet basics are something we try to revisit around this time each year because it’s exciting to think about that beautifully curated fall wardrobe right about now…during those last hot days.
If you’re in love with this coming time of year like I am, it’s so fun to think about layering again and wearing jackets and boots and sweaters…cozy mornings drinking coffee on the porch bundled up in a sweater. GAH, it’s what I live for and why I live in a cooler climate. I recently did a DNA test and it turns out there is a little bit of Scandinavian blood in me…so that longing for hygge comes naturally…way before it was trending. Haha.
1. Moto Jackets
These are my favorite toppers to add a little edge to seriously any outfit…from athleisure looks to dresses. My very favorite are AllSaints moto jackets, but BlankNYC offers some awesome options if you want to go vegan leather.
I can’t sing the praises of AllSaints motos enough. They break in beautifully and last, year after year. They run TTS but will feel fitted at first. Size up if you always plan to wear thicker sweaters underneath. Wearing US 6 in both of these (the below style is no longer stocked, but super similar to my beloved style above.)

2. Black Jeans
Blue jeans are fine and part of my regular rotation…but I’ve forever been a black-wash denim gal at heart. Flat dark black reads, well, flat and almost too trouser-like for me. But give me all the perfectly faded black jeans and I’m happy happy.
I’ve been known for and covering black wash jeans for years on this blog, and I don’t see stopping any time soon. They add that edgy but wearable vibe I’m always down for. Some of my favorites are definitely Levi’s and this new Re/Done pair I got this summer. So good. (Sized up a size in these.)

3. Western Boots
Full-on cowboy boots are back this year, but I’ve been wearing boots with a western-vibe for years. In the last few years it’s been a taller shaft pointed toe, stacked heel version, and I’m still totes down for that style.
I’m gonna be trying on some more cowboy-like options (thinking these) this year, but sometimes those are limited in the jeans you can wear them with. The style I’ve been wearing below gives you the same cool look but in a more easily styled shape.

4. Trench Coats
You just can’t go wrong with having a beautiful trench coat in your fall wardrobe. I love the slightly preppy, super-classic look it adds to my edgier pieces. Balance. I’m all about balancing out those styles with sometimes unexpected pairings.
This is my very favorite, and apparent here in the slightly mod combo of the white boot, black jeans, striped tee and classic trench. This one from Club Monaco is SO well-made. Ralph Lauren and London Fog also make beautiful trench coats.

5. Sweaters With Great Details
This year it’s the fisherman-style sweater I’m super-drawn to, but I think we can all agree a cozy sweater with a great collar, longer sleeves or an oversized fit is just the epitome of fall. The style might change slightly from year to year, but finding one with some cozy or special element is always what I want.

Oh — and don’t miss this super budget-friendly cozy option I have and love, too. (See it above in the pic with the white loafers…just ordered a second color!)
What are the fall pieces you come back to year after year?
It’s fun to try the new trends, but what I love most is mixing them with these classic standbys.

I have to know what that original snake print dress is, and where you got it! I am in love, and the similar one posted just won’t do 😉 that style, colorway, and print are SCREAMING my name. Please share!
It’s Topshop from years ago at Nordstrom. It’s such a good dress and I keep an eye out for anything remotely similar!
I came to ask the same question about the dress! I LOVE your style Laura. Pls keep posting clothing from NAS, like the All saints jacket, so we can see how to style as seasons change. Thank you!
Thank you, Andrea! And will do!!
