Don’t Wear Shorts? Here’s A Comfy Alternative

GUYS! I’m wearing a skirt! I know. But this style jersey knit pencil skirt is SO comfy and great for days when I don’t want to put on a pair of shorts (aka don’t feel like shaving my legs above the knees? HA) or just need to mix it up. This style looks surprisingly good on every body and I can still move and bend over and squat down and sit comfortably in this. So good.

For shorter figures, like me, I’m liking wearing the knit pencil skirt with a cropped shirt or a tee tied at the waist for that leg lengthening I always talk about and love. This also works well with the half-tuck or the French-tuck –I just learned from Tan on Queer Eye that it was called this! Who else adores that heart-warming show?? I’m obsessed!

I like that I can get fancy with this skirt or not. I mean, Tevas. But they’re leather Tevas and I’m LOVING them for a flip flop alternative this summer since some weird new thing about turning 40 and something with my feet won’t let me wear flip flops anymore. #yay These still slide on, but come higher back on your foot and stay on really well instead of flopping on your heel. Anyone with heel or arch issues, you may want to try them out!

TeeProject Social T Constellation Tee – This is the perfect faded blue and the most lovely design. I adore this. Fits TTS, size up for more fabric to tie. Wearing a Small.

SkirtUrban Coco High Waist Stretch Pencil Skirt – Mine is older, but this one is the same style and SUCH a good price at under $20. It also gets a ton of great reviews AND ships Prime? Ok!

SandalsTeva Universal Slide Leather Sandal – LOVE these. My new alternative to flip flops. They stay on your feet well and don’t ‘flop’ which I can’t handle anymore due to getting older and some new lovely arch issues. Seriously I wear these every other day right now. Love that the tan leather goes with everything and looks less sporty than the traditional nylon woven Tevas.

BagMadewell Simple Crossbody – This is so handy for everyday when I don’t need a ton of things. I love it for travel, too. Many times I’ll slide this down into my bigger tote to grab when I don’t want the giant bag.

Necklace – (similar) Layered Necklace from Etsy – I’ve had this necklace for years and it’s my favorite style. The Etsy one is lovely and there are many on that site that are a similar tiered style.

WatchThe Horse Original – This was a Christmas gift a few years ago and I still adore it. I’d like to add a black band into my rotation, too. These watch faces are just my favorite clean style and they’re such a reasonable price for a pretty watch. Ooh, and it comes in a pale pink band now, too. It’s soooo pretty.

DressHanna Andersson Ribbon Sundress – Many sizes selling out, but some still available. Also comes in an overall rainbow stripe. LOVE this dress.

ShoesConverse CT Easy Slip On Kid Sneakers – It’s hard to find this velcro version of the kids’ Chuck Taylors but they’re my FAVORITE. NO lacing or unlacing or tying involved. YES. They do seem to run large.

This girlie of mine and I have been through quite the ups and downs over the last week or so. Parenting is NO JOKE y’all. These pictures make me so happy though and remind me that the ups are so precious and the downs make them even more so. Keep up the good work, mamas, and hug those kiddos tight. Love y’all.

  1. I know your skirt is older, but can you tell us the fabric content and length, or maybe a link to an old stock photo? It’s so hard to tell about these black skirts from just the photos, but yours looks perfect! Really flattering!

  2. Thank you! I know, it’s so frustrating. It’s a Topshop skirt from 2 summers ago. It’s definitely a soft jersey rayon knit blend I’ll have to measure and get back to you, but I want to say it was referred to as a midi length. By looking at these I’d say the Nordstrom in the top left, and the Asos & Amazon on the bottom row seem most similar! I hope that helps. It’s been hard to find one online that I can tell is the same! I’ll keep looking, too.

  3. I was just telling my husband about the “french tuck”! Too funny. And yes, totally obsessed. Especially with Tan’s hair.

  4. Weird question, but how tall are you? I’m trying to figure out where the Amazon skirt would hit me (I’m 5’2). Love this look!

  5. I loved the look and purchased the one off Amazon you linked to and it was terrible quality. I’d reconsider recommending this one.

  6. Just got the one from Amazon (because you look so cute!) it was not what I was expecting. It was very restricting and hard to walk in, nothing like how you described your own skirt.
