On any given day, you’ll find me wearing a mashup of different brands and retailers. I really don’t think much about it. If it’s reasonably clean and looks good, I’m going to wear it. My recent social media scrolling got me re-thinking that approach, if only for a day. See, I found a darling colorful skirt I knew would be perfect for work or church. All good, right? Then, I found a romper for a casual-glam date night. I realized they were all from the same Nordstrom line, Gibson x Hi Sugarplum!, and there were plenty of pieces that could work for me. So, here we are…I thought it would be fun to style a few looks for a day in my life.
Jersey Skirt and Ruffle Tank, FTW!
You know the deal: The kiddos sleep in during the week and wake up early on the weekends. My daughter’s ability to grab her own Lunchable and turn on Nick Jr. buys me a few more winks, but not nearly enough. My daily casual look needs to be comfortable enough to lounge around inside and cute enough that I won’t feel like I need to change if we decide to leave the house. This outfit gets it.

Bonita ruffled tank – Gibson x Hi Sugarplum! – I’m giving myself grace on the number of t-shirts I buy if they’ve got some flair. Polka dots and ruffle sleeves? I’ll allow it! I’m wearing size M, TTS.
Fornillo pencil skirt – Gibson x Hi Sugarplum! – You’ll get lots of mileage out of a stretchy jersey skirt; it’s such a good base for other looks. It also comes in navy/white stripe. I’m wearing size L, TTS.
Adidas sneakers – I’ve had this for a while and can’t believe how clean I’ve kept them! They’re so comfortable, but be sure size down a half size.
Pendant Necklace and Bar Necklace – Etsy – My husband got me this clay pendant necklace for Mother’s Day with my children’s initials. If you haven’t already noticed, I wear it pretty much daily. I wanted to layer it, so I bought the minimal bar necklace recently and am so happy with the look.
Kate Spade Cat Eye Sunglasses (similar) – These are a few years old, but I’m pretty sure they’re the Jazzlyn style. It looks like Amazon is the only retailer that has black in stock, but the Genice and Nastasi are pretty close, too.
A Halter Top and Flowy Skirt for Twirling
This is the skirt that made me stop scrolling. It spoke to me. I literally heard it say “Yaass, honey, twirl!” Actually, that may have been me, but, bright colors and stripes? Um, yeah, I’ll take that. I let the skirt steal the show, so I kept the top simple with the tied halter. This look is great for a summer afternoon wedding or church.

Maroma Halter Top – Gibson X Hi Sugarplum! – I’ve decided nothing flatters my collarbone and arms better than a high-neck halter. I can’t get enough of this color. I’m wearing size M, TTS.
Navio Pleat Skirt – Gibson X Hi Sugarplum! – I dare you not to twirl in this skirt. Kidding, it’s impossible not to. And, these bright stripes are what all my hopes and dreams are made of. I’m wearing size M, TTS.
Half-time Barely There Sandals – ASOS – Sexy, simple, functional…what’s not to love? I’m wearing a 9; they’re TTS. I ordered an 8.5 to be sure, but they were too tight around the toes.
The kiddo was all about throwing on her floral dress and showing me how to pose. Her sandals are sold out in pink, but here they are in white and a similar pink pair.
A Black Romper for a Casual-Glam Date Night
I always have such grand date night outfit plans, then it all goes to crap. I’m trying to keep it simple and cut myself some slack. Enter the black jumpsuit. Y’all know I love color and prints, but sometimes, all black lets ‘em know you still got it. And, showing some leg? Yes, mama’s bringing sexy back.

Captiva Romper – Gibson x Hi Sugarplum! – The fabric is flowy and breathable, so you’ll still look and feel cool this summer. I’m a size 10 and size M was comfortable. The buttons and drawstring waist make bathroom trips a breeze. Yes, I’ll be naked in the stall. No, I don’t care; it’s still more privacy than I’d have at home. The convenience of a one-piece outfit outweighs any discomfort from a bathroom striptease. I’m wearing size M, TTS.
Gold Bracelet – J. Crew – I’m slowly, but surely, building up my everyday jewelry look. This is a nice standalone piece or one to complement my other bracelets and watch.
Asymmetrical Earrings – Etsy – They have just enough character that I don’t feel bare. They’re different, but go with everything; I get so many compliments when I wear them!
Pendant Necklace and Bar Necklace – Etsy – My husband bought me this clay pendant necklace for Mother’s Day with my children’s initials. If you haven’t already noticed, I wear it pretty much daily. I wanted to layer it, so I bought the minimal bar necklace recently and am so happy with the look.
Straw clutch (similar) – My clutch is so old and somewhat hard to find one similar. This one is similar, but with a metal top handle that I’m really digging.
I hope you enjoyed the little glimpse into my home life. I’m not sure you’ll ever see the inside of my home…it’s a vast wasteland of Amazon boxes and McDonald’s happy meal toys, but hey, that’s just the phase of life I’m in right now. We pretty much live outside in the spring and summer anyway. You’re welcome to come follow the fun on Instagram @beingtiarra. LOL @ “it’s still more privacy than I’d have at home” — AMEN mama!!!
LOL, Jen, I’m just sayin’…I don’t get the nakedness argument anymore. I have 2 kids and 0 dignity!
Yes to that skirt! First the rainbow shoes, now the rainbow-ish skirt with my fave type of sleeveless top. Wow! Rocking it and I will be heading to those links to check it all out.
Kari, you’ve been holding out on me bc I didn’t realize how much I love halters! I’ve got a cute printed one queued up soon. And, ah, that striped skirt was prob my fave piece. So bright and fun! I hope you find something you like.
I’ve been eyeing that pencil skirt in the stripes. This post totally made me finally buy it. Thanks for the awesome outfit ideas!
Hey, Mags, I’m glad this post helped! The skirt is super wearable ALLLLLL day!
Love your posts!! I am about your size, so wondering what bra you wear with the halter?? It’s so cute and flattering!
Thank, you, Autumn! I’m slightly ashamed to admit this is just a cheapie padded bandeau bra from Target’s Gilligan O’Malley line. I need to find a better one, but this works in a pinch. I’ve just never in my life had a strapless bra I loved, so I’m kinda “meh” about looking. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help on that, but please tag me on IG, if you happen to find one. Or, if you get the halter, bc yeah, it’s so lovely!
that halter on you — all the heart eyes. Making me reconsider my focus on basically always wearing v-necks so that i don’t look like a block of fabric on the top due to my ridiculous boobs ::insert eye roll emoji::
Heya Sayonada!!! Listen, between this post and my next one (spoiler alert), I’m officially obsessed with halters. Not sure why it’s been so long since I’ve worn one, but it’s given my my shoulders and collarbones new life, honey! I’m a 34DD, so I get that some tops just don’t cut it. These halters are the real deal, though!
That halter/skirt is absolute fire on you! (And your kids/husband are adorable models.)
Oh, hey there, Elda, thanks so much. The family shoot was so much fun; only slightly hectic LOL. I’ll let them know you liked their appearances!
