I started noticing this utilitarian-looking Orolay coat popping up everywhere, on everyone. The thing has its own Instagram! So, I do what I do best, and that is shop on Amazon like it’s my job (oh, wait…because it is). I wanted to see it in person and actually try it on, in order to try to understand the craze.
Well, funny enough…I didn’t actually end up getting it. I realized that they actually make more than one coat!(Whoa…no wayyyyy….That’s cray cray!) Anyways, I scrolled through all of them and kept coming back to one. The reason being, it was different, in an almost scary way…ya know what I mean? Those things you see online and want to be the best thing you’ve ever purchased, but then you try it on and ha-ha nope. Yeh, you know.
I was willing to chance it on this one, though.
The moment of truth came. I TRIED IT ON. It was a bit smooshed and wrinkly, having been shipped in a bag, and I also noticed that it seemed to collect link very easily…so at first, I was meh. I decided to still wear it out and see how it went, not yet ready to ixnay it. The wrinkles started to be less wrinkly, and I realized that the static-ness that made the coat collect lint was probably because of it being packed in plastic wrap and then worn out in the cold. I looked up ways to get rid of static cling and…woo-hoo! The wire hanger actually worked (I don’t necessarily recommend the dryer sheet, because chemicals, but that does work well, too).
My conclusion: The coat is not exactly as it seems, no. The image online isn’t an exact representation of what you actually get. However, that said, I found that once I put it on and wore it out, my appreciation for the coat that it actually grew and GREW. If you are on the taller side, I think this may be the one for you. I now grab it almost every time I am heading out. I don’t feel ridiculous and like I am parading on a runway, but I feel pretty fab…and that’s worth a purchase, in my opinion.
coat: Orolay Long Down Jacket w/ Hood (wearing M, reviews said it runs small and that proved true) – It is warm, if you are wondering. I am heading to NYC in Feb. and, with a sweater underneath and hat, I think I will definitely be kept warm.
jeans: Madewell Roadtripper Jean (TTS, wearing Tall) – most comfortable jeans I own. Stretchy.
boots: Gentle Souls Benton Moto Bootie (wearing half size up, 10) – says true to size, but I think you need to go up by a half size. Comparable to the Frye moto boots. LOVE THEM. Incredibly comfortable. psst. Currently on sale, too.
earrings: Halogen Hoop Earring (coral) – cool earring. Nice pop of color for a Winter outfit.
