Sara and Maureen, the two moms behind one of our favorite online spaces, Social Threads, sent a box of goodies our way. Not everything was a hit (I really wanted this romper to be cute #nope), but there were too many good pieces not to share.
For those of you who have never heard of Social Threads, you’re in for a treat. It’s an online boutique started by two East Coast Mamas, Sara & Maureen. They hand-select everything themselves, and each piece is under $100 (there may be exceptions, but they’re pretty rare). The hand-selection process usually involves trying everything on first (they have some hysterical stories about running into bathrooms at trade shows to see if a piece really will work) and the net result? A really well-edited selection.
So this is my personal edit of their professional edit. Per usual, I’ve tried most of these pieces on with stuff I already have in my closet, so not everything below is shoppable. I did try to clearly identify which links go to similar pieces rather than to the exact pieces. Enjoy!
Social Threads Favs: Jeans, Shorts & Sweatpants
Maureen & Sarah always manage to find really wearable denim basics from one of my fav brands, [BLANKNYC]. And the sweatpants? STOPIT. They find the best stuff, hands down.
1. The Cropped Jeans
These Blank NYC kick-cropped flares are going to be my summer go-tos: they’re a decently high rise, with the coolest raw hem detail. I’ll probably hack off an inch of the cool raw hem because I’m short, but there’ll still be enough left to keep the vibe the same.
2. High-Rise Denim Shorts
I’m a HUGE fan of [BLANKNYC]’s denim shorts. They’re insanely good for the price. This year’s pair has been updated with a higher rise, but I found that they run pretty small. I’m wearing my usual size 25, and need to exchange for a 26.
3. Palm-Print Sweatpants
4. Floral Sweatpants
But there’s another pair that are totally worth mentioning (especially if you are worried about white sweatpants….). I also LOVE THESE sweatpants, below.
8 Cute Tops For Summer
Social Threads always has plenty of super-cute and wearable tops. I’ve tried to rank these in order of my favs…and only partly succeeded. The top three are basically tied. The good news is that each is under $100, sooooo…
1. The Basic White Tank
I’m constantly looking for an everyday white tank. This one is pretty great — racerback, with a v-neckline that’s sexy without being too low. Wear with any racerback bra.
2. The Silky Tank
I’m HUGE fan of wearing real silk, especially in the summer. It’s cool and non-irritating, and I machine wash almost all of my silk tops. (You can basically wash ALL silk, it’ll just lose its shiny finish…which I’m OK with for most.) This silk tank by Daniel Rain is well under $100 and would machine wash just fine.
3. The Sleeveless Sweater
I’ve been wearing the heck out of this thing…especially on hot days. It’s open weave and airy, and seems to go with literally everything. This sleeveless sweater is by Fate, a brand I’ve only recently heard of. Love. Keep scrolling to see the many, many ways I’ve been wearing it…
And then one work outfit, just for fun. (The knot keeps an otherwise boring outfit a little more interesting, and the cardigan is for overly aggressive air-conditioning. But once outside in the heat, remove the cardigan, and you’re left with an easy, cute outfit.)
4. An Airy Summer Sweater (in Stripe)
Also by Fate is this super-light and airy striped sweater. It’s one of the few tops that I like both half-tucked and completely untucked. So cute and perfect for summer. (I’m wearing a size small.)
5. A Cute Little Sweater Vest
This little top has a fun ’70s vibe that I can’t get enough of. I obviously I love it with flares, but it works just as well with jeans, shorts, etc.
6. Three More Cute Tops
Affordable sweatshirts and a swingy little going-out top – too cute not to share. Of these three, the off-the-shoulder sweatshirt is my personal favorite. It’s perfect for nights at the beach over a bikini.
Cute Everyday Dresses
Because there’s nothing easier than a day dress. Says me.
1. The Sleeveless Tank Dress That Is Really Forgiving
I know we all love our Leith tank dresses, but I’ve gotta admit that sometimes I want something looser across my stomach. This dress by RD Style totally fits the bill. AND…just like the Leith dress, it can be easily dressed up or down.
2. The Pretty White Dress
This dress by Fantastic Fawn reminds me slightly of the Voloshin dress I wore all over Greece. (Granted, THIS dress is polyester rather than a special cotton that feels like a cloud…but there’s a big price difference, too.)
3. The Strapless Linen Dress
I LOVE this strapless dress by BB Dakota…but the fit is a little tricky. I’m wearing a size 2 in these photos, but it was too tight around my middle — I’m going to exchange it for the next size up. Admittedly, my stomach is my trouble area, but a size 2 usually fits just fine. There is some slightly boning in the bust, however, that helps to keep the dress up.
If you can figure out the sizing, the dress is stunning. It’s a beautiful, lightweight fabric, and something can be dressed up or down effortlessly. Perfect for summer wedding season, too.
4. The Most Comfortable Dress
This dress is insanely soft and flowy, and has pockets. The only thing I’d caution is that it doesn’t nip in at the waist — you can see in the photo below. So if you really prefer something fitted at the waist, try a different dress.
