This $50 Work-to-Weekend Dress Is A No-Brainer

I stumbled upon this little dress on Amazon, and was initially drawn in because of the Audrey Hepburn vibe. And then when I saw the price ($49???) and read the reviews (all over the place — but everyone agrees it’s really well-made)….well. This was a mystery that NEEDED SOLVING.

Verdict? It’s good.

The dress is basically just a polyester dress, which, normally isn’t my thing, but they’ve added some elastane for stretch. The result is a fabric that is much more comfortable to wear, and drapes beautifully. The dress has pockets (bonus), and is rather demure — it fit well below my knees. It’s almost a midi-dress. But the cut is gorgeous and that midi-length looks kiiiiind of amazing with sneakers.

I strongly suggest going up one size. My normal size 2 did fit (I could zip it up) but the size 4 was MUCH more comfortable and the pockets lay flatter, too. Here’s how I’m wearing it for both work and weekend…

I know the black blazer, black dress might be considered boring by some…but I don’t know any of those people. (Ha!) The whole thing is both comfortable and polished, and I ended up getting a ton of compliments on this outfit.

dress: Lark & Ro Sweetheart Dress (size 4) at Amazon – this dress comes in several colors (navy and white are my other two favs) and is surprisingly well-made. Check it out on the reviewers, too — it’s flattering even on the reviewer that said she didn’t like how it looked. Size up for the best fit.

jacket: Banana Republic Stretch Ponte Blazer (size 0) – one of my very favs. Super-stretchy and comfortable, yet looks sharp.

shoes: old Eileen Fisher heels – so insanely comfy that I can’t quit them. The closest pairs to try are either these ankle-wrap pumps or these slingback pumps.

bag: Lole Lily Backpack (great for travel, too)
