Walked a Mile In These Shoes: The High Heel Edition

We’re always on the hunt for cute, comfortable shoes here at The Mom Edit. And while I’m no comfort shoe queen (that’s Linzi), I do need a shoe I can literally walk a mile in. Or two, or three, preferably. The Philly-based TME team all primarily live downtown, which means that most of us rarely drive.  Instead, we walk. We walk everywhere. We walk kids to school in the rain, we walk to each other’s houses in the snow, we walk to work, and we often walk to restaurants on a night out.

I do like the occasional high heel. But that usually requires a declaration early in the day that tonight!! will be an ‘Uber night’!! and then we all dress accordingly. But once the weather starts to get nice, the best way to end any night out is with a long(ish) walk home. And for that…I need A Shoe I Can Literally Walk A Mile In.

Enter: Rebecca Minkoff’s Capriana’s Ankle Strap Sandal (more colors here or on Amazon)

City-walking women, unite! We all need a comfy pair of high heels, right? A chunky block heel is perfectly walkable for a a mile or 3. Here are my favs.

My Favorite Pair of Comfy High Heels

These are not shoes I can walk allllll over the city in, all night long. But they are shoes, that, in a pinch, will allow me to walk home — in relative comfort — from any restaurant. They are also shoes that let me dance most of the night (I’ve worn them out salsa dancing) and they were totally comfortable for a recent school fundraiser (or ‘mom prom’ as it’s been nicknamed).

The reason these shoes are so comfortable is one part material (the leather is really soft) and one part design. Block heels are always more comfortable than skinny heels, and the height of the heel isn’t totally ridiculous. I even dressed them up for winter here.

Meaning: you won’t look like some baby giraffe awkwardly tripping your way across the street. (If you watch virtually anyone try to walk in 4″ heels, and you’ll know what I mean.)

Also, the ankle strap hits at the perfect spot on my leg so that the shoe is secure, but still walkable. It’s not one of those ankle straps that fights you with every step. They also come in a ton of colors, here.

  1. Have you tried Megan Markle’s favorite, Sarah Flint shoes? They are exquisitely crafted in Italy. Sarah Flint designs comfortable beautiful shoes woman can walk in.

  2. I had a pair of Rothys and did not like them at all. Being made from recycled bottles, they made my feet incredibly hot which I hate. So I donated them to my sister. And I have big feet (size 12) so they were snug as well. I also felt they offered no support.

  3. Good observation. Heels are supposed to make you look sexy but unless you have the balance and foot-pain stamina of a supermodel on cocaine, they make women look so awkward; especially by the end of the night when the pain and/or booze contributes to make the perfect baby-giraffe storm. Now I’m picturing a storm of baby giraffes gently falling from the sky, so thanks for the bonus smile too. 🙂

  4. I love the dress over jeans. The color and texture and play on proportions gives her outfit interest, not just your average look. Who wants to look like the next person? Not Shana. Well done!

  5. I have always wondered so many movie have women wearing the same shoes for hours or days. (I am think Leap Year or Jurassic World). whenever they do this I have noticed they are always the red bottom shoes aka Christian Louboutin, I have always wondered if that is a movie thing or if these are really the world most comfy heels.
Would love to have you test out a pair and let the rest of us know. (You know in case I want to buy a eBay pair or something)
    XOXO- A
