Hey, hey, Party People! I’m calling all the snow queens, the ice princesses, the Mamas who press their noses excitedly to frosty windowpanes at the first sign of snow. Those of us who delight in the sound of ice-cold snow squeaking under our feet, and those of us who wait all year to hear the muffled silence of a heavy snowfall.

I’m calling those of us who, despite — and even because of — the cold simply need to be outside.

Or heck — I’m even calling to the hot chocolate lovers, the readers-of-magazines-by-the-fire who may, in fact, be perfectly fine indoors all winter…if it weren’t for those pesky kids. I’m calling you, too.

Because here’s the thing: It’s February, winter is far from over — at least from an outdoor play perspective — and there’s still plenty of fun to be had!

Warm, Cozy & Cute Outside: Winter Gear On Sale

So when Backcountry reached out, asking if we’d like to help promote their huge February sale — and I realized that all of the pieces I’ve sworn by for outdoor adventuring were, in fact, part of this sale — it was an easy answer.

So. If you’ve been putting off the gettin’ of new gear (and I’m talkin’ about for yourself, Mama)…maybe now’s the time? And in any case, there’s a ton of those cozy fuzzy pieces included in the sale that are basically all I want to wear until summer, so even if you don’t need gear, there’s still some great deals worth mentioning. For ease of shopping this sale (and it is a big, rather overwhelming one), I’ve rounded up all of my favorites in various categories below.

My Favorite Winter Gear For Outdoor Adventuring

I don’t really have a strong opinion on jackets — for me, it depends on the activity (as a general guideline I prefer short jackets for skiing or snowshoeing, but long ones for spectating), but if you haven’t yet invested in a pair of flattering bib snow pants they are EVERYTHING. (And layered over a sporty sweater — or chic base layers — they’re cute enough for après-ski or grabbing hot chocolate.

My Favorite Snow Day Outfits For Outdoor Wandering

Sometimes I’m just outside. I’m outside while my kids play after school, I’m outside taking a leisurely (read:not sweaty) stroll, or — like last weekend — I’m outside watching the UP200, a sled-dog race. For times like these, I need a seriously warm parka, boots and mittens. (And a hat — but that should be obvious…even though I’m not wearing one below.)

One note on the boots: I’ve been wearing this exact pair for years…and that exact style for a lifetime. They’re warm, but my favorite part is that the bottom sole is flexible. This means that I can feel ice chunks under my feet while walking. I vastly prefer the flexible sole because it helps me gauge traction on icy surfaces.

Shop Super-Warm Parkas On Sale

OK, the big question here is which one: The North Face Parka or my beloved Lolë Katie? Both are on sale, both are insanely warm. The Lolë is definitely more packable and feels lighter on…and has a much sportier, sleeker ‘street’ vibe. However, The North Face parka is just as warm (without being super-heavy), but the look is altogether different. More…mod, the parka is basically an iconic silhouette, one that evokes everything from an Abercrombie ad to WWII soldiers. (And I especially love the upscale, slightly heathered-gray that The North Face uses.) Bottom line? You won’t go wrong with either. (And since I’m such an outdoors kind of girl…I have both.)

Shop Cute Little Jackets To Get Us To Spring

With such a good sale going on, it’s sometimes nice to splurge on an altogether different coat option. Perfect for those last few weeks where I just can’t even with the big parka. I found some seriously cute options…but be careful, because only certain colors are on sale. (I tried to specify in the notes below.)

Shop Cute Sorel Boots on Sale

Last but not least…cute boots on sale. Yasssss. Some of my longtime (well-tested) favs are part of this sale.

If this is your first time shopping Backcountry, be sure to use code “THEMOMEDIT” for 15% off your purchase (exclusions apply). All month long, Backcountry will be donating up to $7K from purchases using our special code to The Nature Conservancy to support their recovery efforts in Australia (so that’s pretty amazing).

That’s it, Mamas! All of my favs, currently on sale. Here’s to making the most of winter.
