We spent a week in NYC last month – the whole fam. Mike had a conference to attend, so myself and the boys tagged along.
It was no hardship.
We rented an apartment near a park, and spent our days exploring, just the three of us. I had a ton of tips from my Instagram buddies about where to bring the boys (thank you thank you thank you!!) and the whole week was a good reboot for all of us. (I’ll share the where-to-go tips in another article – they’re too good to miss.)
But I literally wore this outfit (or a version of it) everyday.
Sometimes it would be a different shirt under the sweater (my fav LOFT shirt was worn so often I wish I had bought two – and hey! It’s 40% off the already marked-down price….), sometimes I’d swap the jeans for shorts, my Tieks instead of Chucks….but this was pretty much my uniform: comfy flat shoes, denim, turtleneck, and a button-down peeking out.
Another daily occurrence? Pax with his red boots on the wrong feet, Raines in miss-matched socks. (Raines’ shorts, incidentally, no longer have sharks on the bum. They were all worn off by sliding down rock mountains in Central Park. #howwedo)
wearing:
sweater: Nordstrom (black is sold out), but the blue and cream are still available, or try this cowl neck by Autumn Cashmere, this swingy black turtleneck sweater at Nasty Gal ($68!) or this Eileen Fisher swingy black turtleneck sweater with an asymmetric hem.
shirt: old, but this Equipment shirt is very similar (and on sale), and I also wore the heck out of this LOFT shirt.
jeans: old Rag and Bone….but these slightly destroyed skinny jeans by Paige has a similar vibe.
sneaks: Converse high tops (classic) but I’m kinda loving these with the black laces….
bag: Kate Spade (old)….but this Frye Cross-body satchel makes my heart beat fast
sunnies: old (and left in NY)….replaced with these Ray Bans (still my very favs)
On Raines: Vince kids hoodie, Fab Kids shorts and socks, Vans (on sale!)
On Pax: Splendid Kids hoodie (old), but this Splendid Kids hoodie (on sale) or this one are both similar…Nico Nico dot shorts, hunter kid’s first classic boots, MoMA Kids Sky Umbrella
How is your week treating you? I’m still recovering from our epically bad week last week – time change, full moon, insane boys, and I STILL can’t seem to shake this darn cold. (And thank you for all of your kind words on the #fightinglikeagirl trunk show. I’m off to acupuncture tomorrow, so here’s hoping.)
But I’m starting to get excited….I fly to Denver on Friday for a loooong anticipated girl’s weekend. YESSSSSS.
xo,
S
ps. Final hours in the Nordstrom Clearance Sale! You can see my edited selection from the sale here (I just added boots and shoes), or check out the dressing room selfies if you need pics.
I have the sweater you are wearing in creme, and while you look AMAZING in it…and I love how soft and comfy it feels, I don’t feel like I can pull it off? Not sure why? Maybe my frame 5’7 155…is too big? But whatever…I love your blog and your style and blah blah blah you’re fantastic! 🙂
Hmmmm….Sarah it *should* work?? Want me to take a look? If so, email me a pic at themomedit@gmail.com and I’ll see if any ideas spring to mind.
That sweater is to die for … the cream is already sold out. Gah! I love that outfit. Anyway, you mentioned Denver … I’ve been struggling a long time with finding a great winter uniform that’s functional for warmth – yet stylish. We all look the same up here in the mountains … colorful puffer coat, black leggings, Sorels. Any ideas? (especially cool winter boots)
Or how about some shoe suggestions for days when it’s cold but not wet and snowy outside? I get SO tired of wearing boots (whether they’re snow boots, ankle boots or tall boots) every single day during winter, but I have no idea what to wear instead.
I suppose Converse are an option? 😉
Let me think about this. I do have some ideas. And Megan, Converse are absolutely an option! That’s actually the exact reason I bought a pair of hightops….they hide my Smartwool socks. 🙂
I second this request! I recently moved to Denver after years of living in a warmer climate. I’m not entirely sure what I need to buy.
Man, Raines has some great style! I have a son about his age, who has similar hair, but a couple of days ago, he went and chopped a few patches, and now it looks weird. I was going to bring him to a stylist, but now I don’t know that she can make it look cool again. Maybe it will have to be a shorter cool (I wanna cry!). Glad you all had so much fun!
