What I’ll Be Wearing This 4th of July

Growing up in Arkansas, the closest beaches were hours away in the Florida panhandle…beautiful white sandy beaches with afternoon thunderstorms, tiny white sand crabs and sweltering heat. We’d hop in the minivan most summers, and drive and drive to get there and run right out in the warm sand as soon as we arrived.

Sienna is growing up with a completely different beach experience. Cold, rocky and foggy, the beaches of the Pacific Northwest are gorgeously stunning, just totally different. Being the native Oregonian that she is, the cold doesn’t seem to bother her, and she runs right into the surf every time. Meanwhile, I’m trying to show some cute summer-wear like shorts and my legs are turning purple. #thankgodforthissweatshirt

I adore this place we live though, just over an hour to these beautiful shores of the Pacific. I mean. I cannot complain that this loveliness is essentially at our doorstep and includes a stunning drive through forested mountains to get there. We may not have sun and sand crabs, but we have vistas for days.

A cute & cozy 4th of July outfit is exactly what we're eyeing for coastal Independence Day celebrations. Denim shorts, sweatshirt, cute tee, DONE.

My Super-Cute 4th of July Outfit

Need warming up at the beach, too? I highly recommend this last activity for getting that blood pumping. This lovely shot makes it look easier than it was…what you don’t see is all the work my mom-abs are trying to do under that sweatshirt to keep Sienna from face planting in the sand. Ha.

Outfit Details

Star Sweatshirt – Love this cozy top. I sized up to a medium because I wanted it super cozy, but it is pretty big. It fits TTS.

Madewell Knot Front Tank – This is a new summer fav. I love the flattering cut, and it’s not too short. Because it’s made to be knotted, it fits better around the waist and doesn’t show any stomach. Wearing a Small.

Lucky Brand Shorts – Well dang, mine are almost sold out, but these are the same cut and these are also Lucky with super-cute distressing. I sized up one to a 28 and they’re just slightly big.

For our holiday plans next week we’re headed out into more PNW wilderness to camp with the whole Jansen crew. This time we’ll be lakeside somewhere in Western Washington, eating all the S’mores and maybe a few recipes from Jamie Oliver this time (obsessed with this little series.)

Meet Laura! She's a reader turned contributor and we couldn't be happier to have her as part of the team. Her fun, creative style is, as she says, "somewhere between Madewell and Joan Jett" (YES.) and she delivers some mean dressing room selfies so keep an eye out for those. Fun fact? She loves getting her hair cut and we love to see what she has up her sleeve.

  1. Love how you styled these pieces! Really versatile! I like these posts, helps me think outside the box. Thanks for the inspiration!

  2. Laura, I’m wondering if you love Jamie’s series on cooking outdoors because he pronounces oregano,”Oregon-o”? I love it!

  3. Thanks! I LOVE a good star print! One small comment about swinging your daughter like the photo (way to work those abs!) is that my friend’s mom dislocated her shoulders doing that (and she was a nurse!) it never would have occurred to me, so just wanted to let you know. Have a great weekend!
