Thanks, January. It’s Been a Blast.

jess_illustrations2-01My friend Jess and I have been collaborating again (remember her season-less starter wardrobe?).  She’s so fun to work with, her designs so full of color and life…I think we’re going to make this a regular thing.  We’ve been going back-and-forth with ideas but I wanted to share a few sketches she tossed my way.  They’re totally where my head has been all month:  Leather jackets, cozy knits, and STRIPES.  One of my new year’s resolutions was to pull the trigger on a leather jacket after years of dithering and….well.  I found it.  No, I found THE ONE.

Here’s what I plan to wear for the next 30 days straight.  (#noreally.  I do that.)

My Favorite Orange-Red Lip For a Pop of Color:  Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Zinfandel, $24 (no parabens, sulfates or phthalates…you could eat this stuff)

The Leather Jacket of My Dreams:  IRO Tamie Belted Leather Jacket, $1298 (exclusive to Intermix…and if you can show up in-store by Jan 31st, they’re offering 15% off full-priced items.  I went with a size 38 to layer sweaters under.  It’s insanely soft and flattering, even when sizing up.  A magic jacket.  You’ll see it soon.)

A Seriously Awesome Knit Beanie:  Alexis Beanie at Zady, $197 (expensive I know…but handknit in Berlin in superfine merino and angora etcetc….I’m actually working on a round up of the best winter beanies since my obsession shows no sign of waning, and most of my finds are much more affordable.  But I had to include the Zady one here because it’s my favorite.)

A Striped Shirt That Looks Way More Expensive Than It Is: Gap Fluid Stripe Tee, $8.99 (Very Alexander Wang-ish.  I own this tee in Small, am considering picking it up in XS as well.)

Jaw-Droppingly Cool Flares:  Madewell Flea Market Flares in Joan wash, $135 (Bravo, Madewell.  BRAVO.)

A Cozy Knit To Layer OVER Your Leather Jacket: Anthropologie Fringed Plaid Poncho, $89 on sale (Anthro has a few different versions of these ponchos, as well as some seriously cute beanies in their winter sale section.)

A Quirky Cross-Body For Your Phone and Wallet:  Betsey Johnson Audio Thrilled The Radio Bag, $44 (The speakers actually work. Seriously.)

Winter Boots In Disguise:  Sorel Joan of Arctic Wedge Boot, $239 (Scotti turned me onto these and now I’m obsessed.  A PERFECT way to wear your flares right now.  Also at Zappos, Amazon, and Anthro if Nordstrom is out of your size.)

Thanks for the inspiration, Jess!!!  You can see more of Jess’ work (as well as some super cute style pictures) on her blog, This Wild And Precious Life Blog, or follow her on Instagram.

Happy Friday!

ps.  Thank you SO much for all of your sweet birthday wishes.  Such a nice way to celebrate a birthday.  MWAH!!

  1. Shana..or Scotti…can you tell me what the sizing is like with the Sorel boots? I read a lot of reviews that say go down 1/2 size…what was your experience? also Shana…regular sizing for the Madewell jeans?

  2. I loved the season-less starter wardrobe and can’t wait to see more. I see stripes everywhere – on blogs and real people – but I have no idea how to wear them on my body. I’m a classic hourglass with a small waist and big breasts. I wear a size 12. I would love it if you added in some suggestions for the readers who are a bit curvier. Love the blog!

  3. Eek, thanks for the striped shirt! That’s a screaming deal and I’m always looking for stripes to wear under vests. Used and code and scooped those up before they’re gone. Thank you!

  4. 1K?! Good lord, what did they do to that leather?! I say this only because my husband’s full body, custom made, leathers for motorcycle racing, that actually serve to protect his body, cost about the same!!! Of course, he looks like an extra from X-men and you look cool, so there’s that. But the Gap tee has me sold.
