A Surprisingly Good Combo: Leopard Print & Wedge Boots

Hello from all the snow! Yes, we made national news and our governor declared a state of emergency last week here in Oregon. We do not know what to do with this much snow! In North Portland, we got 15″! It’s been nuts to say the least. And gorgeous. And so nuts. And lots of family time. 8 snow days since right before Christmas. Plus the Christmas/New Years holidays. Plus, MLK Jr. holiday. All the snow and all the family time. B-A-N-A-N-A-S. PLEASE let’s talk fashion instead. Mmmkay??

Leopard print is just…I can’t help but love it. It’s the rocker girl in me I guess. I will forever adore it. It’s a little bit bold and daring, but still doable. What I find works best for me is to pair it with casual, rugged and/or distressed pieces. Of course, wearing a print like this with all black is just chic and easy. I’m digging the gray boots here myself, but black would work just as well.

And speaking of the boots, living in the rainy capital, I don’t really have cute furry snow boots. These Sorel Lea wedges (larger sizes only here) are my jam and they even hold their own in the snow well. I will say the traction on these puppies is amazing. Had they only been taller on my leg they would have rocked the snow so hard. But in rain and normal amounts of snow? Perfection. And they are so flattering compared to many other boots. I tried a flat rainboot style (the Out ‘n About boots) that I’ve loved for a while, but they were so unflattering on my short legs.  I really can’t say enough good about the Lea wedge. They are comfy, flattering and waterproof and go with everything. Done.

Coat: Old Similar Asos River Island Leopard Coat or H&M Patterned Jacket – I love both of these. For my body type, I like a coat that is fitted in the shoulders, not too long and a bit of an aline shape.

Sweater: Sold out! Similar Press Diamond Turtleneck Sweater

Jeans: Madewell 9″ High Rise Skinny Jeans – Favorite jeans ever. True to size. Not too high in the rise. I cropped them a bit shorter.

Boots: Sorel Lea Waterproof Wedge – Gray is selling out in some sizes, but black and olive green and a dark brown are more widely available. Update: Dang! Sorry these are selling out. There looks to be gray left here in 6.5 & 7.5 though!

Sunnies: Target Women’s Round Black Sunglasses

Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Julian Backpack (it’s on sale a bit!) There’s a reason most of us at TME have this bag. It’s seriously the best purse ever. Enough room for everyday and so convenient to wear to have hands-free for kiddos and stuff.

Mittens: Modcloth Saturday at the Stables Convertible Gloves

On Sienna

Coat: Gap Fur-trim Duffle Jacket – LOVE this coat. Super cute, warm and cozy and the fur trim is removable.

Sweater: Carter’s Animal Face Tunic Sweater

Pants: Similar Cat & Jack Moto Legging

Boots: Gap Cozy Duck Boots

Sunnies: Babiators

Hat: Cat & Jack Kitty Cat Hat

They’re predicting freezing rain now for Portland, you guys. Sienna’s only been to school once since Christmas break, I think. She usually goes 3x a week. Send help. Stay warm out there! Whew…

  1. I like the sweater wedge the best. I think a wedge looks so much better when the heel area is defined like that instead of just one massive block.

  2. Love this on you! You look like the coolest mom ever in the whole wide world plus fifty miles outside of it!

And I’m convinced that I should get those booties.

  3. I fell in love with those boots months ago, and I’m kicking myself for not buying them! I’ve looked EVERYWHERE online, and they’re all sold out (except for tiny or super large sizes). Amazon says they have them, but they don’t (it just links to Zappos).

  4. Yup. The boots are great even when on ice. I should know we’ve had three no-school days in week’s time due to sheet ice on north Iowa rural roads. But the dog still needs to go out. I can walk with traction when wearing these babies.

  5. These madewell jeans arrived at my door today and – HOLY SMOKES!! I had resigned myself to forever having ill-fitting, post kiddo granny fanny. No more! They have the perfect amount of stretch. Meeeeeoww!!

  6. Hang in there – boy, it sounds like QUITE a mix of “yay family time!” and “omg MORE family time?!” That’s a LOT of snow days!

Just had to say you look so cute AND hot in those jeans! Holy crap! The coat SHOULD have been my focus but honestly the first thought was, “Those jeans! They look so great on her!!” Of course they’re the Madewells I’ve eyed before. Gotta get me some! Thanks Laura!

  7. Oh my goodness – another Portland mama here and the snow has indeed been bananas! I bought the Lea wedges last time they were mentioned here and they are indeed amazing. I’ve barely taken them off since they arrived. But those Joan tall wedges might have to come to my house too. Great post!
