Your Fall Face: Dewy Skin + Plum Lips

Fall beauty trends have kind of been all over the place in the last few years.  And as fun as they are to watch on the runway, they don’t fit into everyday life (at least, not my everyday life).  I mean, even the most daring makeup gurus would look ridiculous in some of these beauty trends if you saw them on the street.  Looks like “splashes of makeup on face” and “child playing in mother’s makeup” just don’t translate well to kids’ drop-off.  (I did not make these up—but Greenlea will be happy to see she’s trending.)  That’s not to say that there aren’t a few beauty themes we can totally get on board with this fall.  One I’m particularly excited about?  Dewy, natural-looking skin and plum lips.  The no-makeup look was everywhere, punctuated by glossy lips in a bold plum color.  If you can perfect the “naturally” gorgeous skin look and add a pretty plum lip, you’ve got a perfectly on-trend (but not trendy) beauty routine.  Here’s how I do it:

6 Steps to the Perfect Fall Face

The mistake lots of people make is thinking that the no-makeup look requires, well . . . no makeup.  And while you definitely want to stay away from heavy foundation and contouring, the naturally gorgeous skin look typically requires a few strategic products to even out and brighten up your skin tone.  (Especially for those of us with young kids!)

1/2/3/4/5/6

Before (no makeup on my face, but I’ve filled in my brows with Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in Taupe)

Step 1. Apply Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer (I used nude) lightly all over face for sheer coverage that doesn’t mask skin.

Step 2. Lightly tap Bobbi Brown Under Eye Corrector (I used light to medium bisque) on under eye circles to brighten your eyes and look refreshed.

Step 3. Get rid of extra shine in your t-zone and set makeup with Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder (in translucent or translucent medium deep).

Step 4. Blend BareMinerals Bounce & Blur Blush in blurred buff onto cheeks with fingers.

Step 5. Add Laura Mercier Caviar Volume Panoramic Mascara for full, glossy lashes.

Step 6. Finish with a burgundy lip with a glossy or satin finish.

  • For more drama, try a deep plum color like Bobbi Brown Crushed Liquid Lip in Cool Beets.  This formula feels like a balm, looks like a lipstick and shines like a gloss.  I LOVE it (it comes in a bunch of gorgeous colors).

  1. Scotti, I love your posts. I always crave a new lipstick with the change of seasons but never know where to start with the endless brand/color/gloss level options. Bam, just ordered all of these and the tinted moisturizer, too. Looks so pretty on you! Thanks!

  2. Love this look! Especially excited about the under-eye corrector, as I always have dark circles.

How do we get the 15% off beauty at Macy’s? I’ve filled my shopping bag, but don’t see the discount showing up.

  3. love this look!!! I just got a makeover and fell in love with the tinted moisturizer and under-eye concealer. Can I ask, since I’m a makeup newbie, do you wear a primer to start (under the moisturizer and concealer)? I’m trying to figure out how to prevent the concealer from caking(?) in my under-eye creases/bags. So far I’ve learned that a quality brush or sponge is a good place to start.
