What to Wear to Summer Events – The Floral Jumpsuit

If you told me back in the winter I’d be showing up here in a backless, floral, wide-leg jumpsuit, I wouldn’t have believed you. Yet, here I am, and you know what? I love this thing.

I randomly came across it online, and it was the print and that neckline that lured me in to trying it out. We all know I’m more of a tee and jeans kind of gal, but I do need to get dressed up every once in a while. This piece will be perfect for any summer events…weddings, parties, etc. It’s unique and fun, and somehow still totally me.

I love a good high neck in swimsuits as you know, but as it turns out, this neckline does the same torso-lengthening magic in a jumpsuit, too. I find I have to wear at least a low heel with this ensemble since it has the wider leg, but these Patti sandals we all love are perfection with it, and again lengthening since they’re close to my skin tone. (Speaking of skin tones and shoe matching, you must check out Tiarra’s amazing post where she found similar shoes for all skin tones!)

Missguided Open Back High Neck Culotte Jumpsuit – Wearing a US 8 (the waist was quite snug in the size 6, but it fit otherwise.) You guys. This stunning one piece is under $50, too. Yep. A solid find.

Sam Edelman Patti Heels – We all love these. They’re a great lower heel height and go with everything.

betsy & iya Novi Hoop earrings – Favorite Portland jewelry designers. They have a gorgeous new line out right now too, called Inti. You must check it out!

Free People Galloon Lace Halter – One of my favorite bralettes. My color is discontinued, but the gorgeous emerald green would look lovely with this. Update: Just found this cool striped back bra the other day (click on the color ‘Majolica Blue Striped’)….Wish I had had it for these photos. SO pretty.

Straw clutch (similar) Love the yellow color, too.

I’m picky about prints y’all, so I wanted to choose some other options I’d happily put on my own bod. I think that’s what is so fun about the one I found…the print is unique and fun! I also tried out the Free People one below the other day and wound up bringing it home. It’s SO good, and one that’s versatile for dressing up or down as it looked great with flat sandals. It comes in a few other colors, too.

Are you attending any fun or dressy events this summer? I’d love to hear! It turns out ours will be pretty quiet overall, but we just added a visit to Crater Lake National Park for August. I’m so excited to see the gorgeousness there. I can’t believe we haven’t been yet, since it’s just four hours from Portland, but ya know, #life.

xo,

  1. There’s a soft button at the neck and a zipper at the top of the pants. I was glad they were easily done myself no assistance required. Haha. That would’ve been a no!

  2. I never would have looked at something like this but I love the FP one! I’m not really a dress girl so I love this option. Still feminine and dressy but pants!

  3. Yessss. I have totally surprised myself by digging jumpsuits. Usually my style can be described as neutral-tomboy-wallflower. I just tried one on the other day in a navy floral print. I kinda loved it but couldn’t fathom when or where I would actually wear it?

So….all of my friends are already married (or nowhere near marriage). Where do I wear this if I don’t have a wedding or party to go to? Just for date night (even if my husband is skeptical?) I’d love some advice on dressing it down for everyday.

  4. Laura, I LOVE your style. All the girls here are fantastic but your combos are always a complete win for me. Somehow you always nail badass and feminine together and your whole vibe is just so pretty! I’ve bought several of your recommendations (things I *never* would have picked out myself) including your silver boots which literally stop traffic every time I wear them. Thanks so much for helping me (and others, I bet) feel really great in clothes — I never used to. I’m not sure about the backless on this but I’ma try it!

  5. So wonderful, Maria! I’m so glad things are resonating with you and helping you stop traffic BEST compliment ever. I really appreciate you leaving a comment and I’m super stoked you’re finding things that feel like YOU.

  6. Ah yes. I think a sporty wedge heel could still be flattering but dress it down. Something like the Sorrl wedges? And I’m totally not sure this would work but maybe wearing a fitted cap sleeve tee under it? I’ve seen a few tees under jumpsuits lately and I’m loving the vibe. Would be a little trial and error but could be cool! And yes to date night!
