AGOLDE’s Parkers have been my favorite denim shorts for years. I first bought a pair in 2022, and they’ve only gotten better with time as the denim softens and molds to my body. I loved them so much, I grabbed a second pair last summer — and now, they are my non-negotiable go-tos every summer and vacation.
They seriously go with everything.
AGOLDE Parker Shorts vs. 3 Longer Denim Shorts That Are Actually Flattering
I love that they look just as good with Birks or sneakers (or bare feet!) as they do with heels or wedges. They work with everything from a swimsuit to a graphic tee, a simple tank, or even a satin top.
But OK — real talk: the Parker shorts are short. Like, 2.5″ inseam short.
Why I Still Love the AGOLDE Parker Shorts (Despite the Inseam)
So why do I love them so much?
Honestly, I’ve asked myself that too. Because technically, they fall into the “too short” category. But somehow, they just…work. They don’t feel like they’re riding up constantly. They’re not stiff or overly revealing. They just sit right, move well, and flatter my shape. And when I want to feel a little more put-together (or wear something other than a swimsuit or tank), they still look good.
But I’ll admit — there are times when I want just a little more coverage. Not long shorts, but…long-er. So I went looking.
These next three denim shorts hit that sweet spot — longer than the Parkers, but still flattering, cool, and easy to wear.
1. MOTHER’S The Dodger Fray Jean Shorts
shorts (28) | bodysuit (s) | sandals
Where to Buy: Saks | Revolve | MOTHER | Shopbop
Inseam: 3.5″
These were an instant YES.
- The denim is soft, stretchy, and feels broken-in thanks to Lyocell (a fave fabric of mine for comfort and drape).
- The zipper fly lies flat and avoids that button-front bulk.
- No waistband gapping (!!), and they stay in place without digging.
That extra inch in the inseam makes a surprising difference. I feel more covered, but they still give off that laid-back, cutoff vibe. If you love the look of shorter denim shorts but want a little more comfort and stretch, these are gold.
They’re flattering from the front, and I love that they have a zipper fly instead of buttons — it keeps the front from bowing out or feeling bulky.

And bonus — no waistband gapping! They stay put without digging or sliding down.

The 3.5” inseam doesn’t sound like a big jump from the Parkers’ 2.5”, but that extra inch really does make a difference. I feel a little more covered without losing the laid-back feel I love in cutoffs.
If you like the look of shorter denim shorts but want a little more stretch and coverage, these are so good.
2. Good American’s Good 90’s Studded Shorts
shorts | bodysuit (s) | sandals
Where to Buy: Saks | Good American | ASOS | Shopbop
Inseam: 3.5″
These are just fun.
- The studs add a little edge without being over the top.
- The subtle distressing + retro cut gives off a cool ‘90s energy (without going full costume).
- Made for curves — with a comfy mid-rise fit and a waistband that doesn’t gap.
- No wedgies, no shifting, and soft denim that moves with you.
They’re short, yes, but comfortable. A standout pair when you want something a little different.

Like all Good American denim, these shorts actually work with curves. The mid-rise fit is comfortable, the waistband doesn’t gape in the back (huge win), and the 3.5” inseam gives just enough coverage without veering into long-short territory.
Had to include a close-up — because the studded detail deserves its own moment. 🙌🏼

3. Joe’s The Jessie Denim Relaxed Crystal Shorts
shorts (28) | bodysuit (s) | sandals
Where to Buy: Saks | Bloomingdale’s | Joe’s Jeans
Inseam: About 4″
These are a bit outside my usual comfort zone — longer, looser, and more relaxed — but I ended up liking them a lot.
- With a 4″ inseam, they’re as long as I’d go, but they still feel cute and flattering.
- They sit a little lower on the hips and offer a laid-back, slouchy vibe (without looking boxy).
- The crystal embellishments are subtle but eye-catching — a hint of glam in a wearable way.
These are a surprisingly solid pick.

The Longer Shorts Everyone Loves…But I Just Can’t.
Where to Buy: Nordstrom | Free People | Dillard’s | Zappos
Inseam: 4″
Longer shorts have become the thing lately. I mean, these Moxie shorts are everywhere right now — and given that I didn’t quite love Free People’s Moxie Jeans, I was pretty sure the shorts wouldn’t be my thing either.
Um…I was right.
Laura styled them in a way that looked super cool and effortless (because of course she did). But me? I’m not exactly the “cool girl in oversized denim” type. I lean more glam than chill, and on me…these just didn’t land.
I just…don’t get it. These are basically like the jeans — but somehow worse because they’re shorts. They looked boxy and stiff, and the fit was just off.
OK, the side doesn’t look thaaaat bad. But looks can be deceiving.
Yep. My bum is fully eating them. I tried rearranging the fabric, but two steps later — right back where we started. So uncomfortable.
If I wanted to exaggerate my pear shape, these would do the trick. But that is…not the goal.
Final Thoughts: Parker Shorts Forever…But These Longer Styles Are Worth Trying
So yeah — longer denim shorts are having a moment. And I really did try. But most of them felt more “why?” than wow. I’ll happily take an extra inch or two of coverage — as long as I don’t have to give up comfort, shape, or a little bit of sexy. 😉
- Softest fit: MOTHER The Dodger Shorts
- Best For Curves: Good American Studded Shorts
- Most Fun Pair: Joe’s Jeans Crystal Shorts
XOXO,
