8 Ways I’d Style Up Free People’s Moxie Jeans If I Wore Them

1

Okay, I’ll admit it…these Free People Moxies are starting to grow on me.

But embracing this trend hasn’t been easy. As someone with a pear-shaped body, wearing jeans that make my bottom half look even bigger doesn’t feel logical. Especially when there are so many high-rise, fitted-at-the-top denim styles that better compliment my assets. 🤣 I typically gravitate towards styles like wide-leg, flare, or even baggier options that cinch at the waist (Good American’s 90’s jeans are perfect for that).

Can Free People’s Moxie Jeans Be Sexy?

Still…there’s something undeniably cool about these jeans. Like I kinda wish I could rock them as effortlessly as Shana or Abby…or Laura…or Amy…or Jess…

OK, so given that the entire team LOVES these jeans, I thought it was about time I took a shot at styling them for myself. The real question is…can I make them sexy? Let’s see…

1. With a Sexy Top & Strappy Sandals

My go-to trick for instantly making any outfit sexier? Strappy, minimalist sandals like these. They effortlessly elevate the whole look. Pair them with a shoulder-baring top and a cute bag, and I could almost wear the jeans for date night!

2. With a V-Neck Sweater & Pointy Toe Boots

I love that pointy-toe boots are back in the rotation! They just have a sleeker vibe, and this pair, with its stretchy, sock-like fit over the ankle, tucks perfectly under the wider legs of these jeans. It’s the perfect way to balance out the volume. And let’s be honest, V-neck sweaters always bring a bit more sex appeal than a crewneck…

3. With a Bomber & Chelsea Boots

While this look might not scream sexy, I’m still really into it. This bomber has become a fall wardrobe staple for me—it’s so unique and somehow highlights the waist without being tight. Plus, the zipper can be worn high or low, depending on the vibe. (Oh, and these boots? They’re water-resistant!)

4. With a Textured Tank & Sexy Sandals

The sexy sandal trick works with just about any color, but I’m especially loving the nude (and this similar style is a steal for a fraction of the price). The cropped length of the tank is ideal for highlighting the waist without showing too much skin—just the right balance!

5. With an Off-the-Shoulder Sweater & Ivory Boots

I’ve always had a soft spot for cozy off-the-shoulder sweaters that show just the right amount of skin. I love layering them over my go-to Hanro cami—it’s way more comfortable than a strapless bra, and the thin strap looks so much better than a regular bra strap peeking out.

6. With a Bodysuit & Sneakers

A bodysuit is perfect for balancing the volume of the Moxies, and the low-profile sneakers keep the look casual. I’d wear a bodysuit like this with strappy sandals for a dressier vibe.

7. With a Cardigan & Suede Booties

Cardigans as shirts are my go-to this fall! That Hanro cami makes the perfect base layer, providing coverage without giving off too much of a “shirt” vibe. An oversized cardigan wouldn’t work as well with the Moxies (on my body type at least), but this thinner fabric and shorter hemline makes it work. Plus I can leave the bottom few buttons undone to highlight the tie waist.

8. Make it All Free People

This Free People sweater is absolute perfection! A bunch of us own it and are obsessed—the cropped hemline perfectly highlights the waist, and the cut is just boxy enough without being shapeless. It also lets the tie detail show through without awkwardly bulging under the fabric.

Alright, so there’s my attempt at styling Free People’s Moxie Barrel jeans. I do love the paint splatter detail and the cool rope-belt closure. I especially like the fact that they’re short enough to wear with flats but still look good with heels or boots. Now that I look at it, these jeans are one of the most versatile I own when it comes to footwear…

So what do we think? Could I actually start to like barrel jeans?

XOXO,
