I got it in my head I wanted all black sneakers to replace my black and white ones. I saw them on someone in super rad athletic wear and I wanted to copy. So the search began for the best pair…

I do Barre3 3-4x a week right now so I’m in my workout clothes a lot more than I used to be. We don’t wear shoes for the workout but of course I want to look good and be comfy to-and-from the studio and when I’m running errands.  My criteria was just that they be a cool sneaker with mostly all black details, but a pair that were a smart buy and not just a fashion sneaker. I wanted them to do double duty as comfy walking shoes, too, so I stuck with running shoes.

Nike Downshifter 7

black nike sneakersNike Downshifter 7 – These were a solid pair and the heel was super comfy/cushioned, but I didn’t like the shape of these on my feet. I’m not sure why but I’m kinda over the long toe-box shape on running shoes these days. I’m sure they’re probably great for actually running or something, but since I don’t do that… These did fit true to size. The sole isn’t super cushioned but they were still overall comfortable. Great price point, too.

New Balance Classics WL410

New Balance Classics WL410 – I liked these ok, but felt the overall profile was too small to be very flattering. They were comfortable but ran a little bit small. I would size up if you plan to wear socks with them or run in these.

Nike Free RN 2017

black nikes womenNike Free RN 2017 – I really liked these for an all-black pair. The Nike Free are some of the lightest/comfiest shoes I’ve ever owned (I have another pair) They aren’t heavily cushioned though if you’re looking for that kind of comfort, but they feel like you’re barely wearing anything. I like the toe shape on this pair better than the other Nikes. They were a pretty close second to my favorites. Fit true to size, unless you plan to run then you might size up.

New Balance Classics WL574

New Balance Classics WL574 – These are the pretty classic fit NB with updated details and they were definitely my favorites. I didn’t think I wanted any white on the sole, but these have just enough to be interesting without looking like platforms or what I lovingly refer to as marshmallow feet. The copper is insanely good and the laces add a little more interest, too. They’re true to size unless you plan to wear thick socks or run in them, then I’d size up for a little more length. I guess I should just start a collection of copper NB because I already own these. Oh boy.

More Favorite Black Sneakers

What’s your favorite sneaker style? Any good finds for fall? Also, does anyone have a favorite no-show sock? I’m always on the hunt for a good pair that actually stays on in my shoes without sliding down. I’m counting down until the cool weather returns!

  1. I’m all-the-heart-eyes over the copper, and black and copper, New Balance!! So cool. I have become a recent Convert to Adidas, though. I’m a nurse and I don’t like Danskos (I wore them as a chef in my previous career and didn’t like them then, either. Weird, I know) so I wear sneakers to work. Where I stand/walk/run for no less than 12 hours at a time. Comfortable sneakers are my jam. I swore by Nike Shox or Reax for the comfort level. Until I tried Adidas Ultra Boost! The Shox are kind of stiff and very structured (I don’t love how they look, but I was willing to deal with that because of the comfort). The Adidas are just as comfortable but the actual shoe is almost sock-like. They are, hands down, the best sneaker I have ever worn. They’re pricey, though. The pair I have (which are super cute blue and white floral print with pink details) are from an Adidas outlet store and I paid $45 for them. Definitely worth shopping around for a sale! I’ve provided a link to a super expensive all black pair. Also, Vans has a no show sock that is awesome. I also wear those with my sneakers to work and I rarely, if ever, have to adjust my socks in a 12 hour shift! That’s pretty impressive!

  2. Hi Laura! Those New Balances are fantastic– do you think they would fit a wide foot? (I can do the Adidas Stan Smiths no problem.)

  3. I love 574’s too!!! My fave no show socks are from madewell. They have the sticky things at the heel and they’re the best!!!!
